The Institute for Educational Development is seeking a Research Associate based in Quetta, Pakistan, to contribute to a grant-funded project focused on developing a Teacher Career Pathway and Promotion Framework. This framework aims to establish transparent, merit-based, and performance-oriented career progression routes for teachers in Balochistan. It links career advancement with classroom performance, offers dual pathways for teachers to excel as educators or leaders, integrates evidence-based performance indicators, enhances teacher motivation, and introduces teaching licenses. The role involves working closely with local communities and education stakeholders to support the successful implementation of this framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute and support primary field data collection activities, including pre-testing research tools in designated areas.
- Conduct and facilitate focus group discussions with school teachers, headmasters, education managers, and other key stakeholders to identify challenges in teacher promotion and performance evaluation.
- Lead community outreach and mobilization efforts, gathering feedback from parents, local teachers, and school communities.
- Support the central AKU-IED team based in Karachi by providing insights into the local social and educational dynamics of Balochistan.
- Ensure targeted representation and feedback from marginalized groups and female teachers across different districts.
- Document field processes, community feedback sessions, and stakeholder meetings to supply qualitative data to the core research team.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or Natural Sciences from a reputable national or international university.
- Minimum of two years of relevant experience in the education sector or a related field.
- Strong understanding of the local socio-cultural and educational context in Balochistan.
- Proven ability to conduct semi-structured focus group discussions and effectively navigate school environments.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for community outreach and engagement with diverse school communities.
- Effective communication skills to interact with local education stakeholders and marginalized community members.
