We are looking for a PhD-level R&D Lead to shape and drive our applied research efforts in artificial intelligence and machine learning. This role involves leading research projects from initial concept through prototyping to full production, collaborating closely with engineering teams to transform advanced AI methods into practical diagnostic and healthcare solutions. The position requires a hands-on leader who combines scientific expertise with a focus on delivering real-world impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and manage the R&D roadmap, ensuring alignment between research initiatives and the company’s product and business objectives.
- Lead applied research in machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing (NLP) including large language models (LLMs), and computer vision, with a strong emphasis on healthcare and diagnostic applications.
- Rapidly prototype, validate, and benchmark innovative approaches, guiding successful projects into production in partnership with engineering teams.
- Work closely with backend, frontend, AI, and Python developers to integrate research outcomes into scalable, robust products.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to developers and junior researchers, fostering a culture of experimentation, innovation, and scientific rigor.
- Stay current with academic and industry advancements, representing the company’s technical leadership through publications, patents, and presentations when appropriate.
- Ensure all research and data handling complies with healthcare data privacy regulations and standards.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Data Science, or a closely related discipline.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience following the completion of the doctoral degree.
- Proven track record of research excellence demonstrated through publications, patents, or a strong applied research portfolio.
- Deep, hands-on expertise with modern machine learning and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow, and core competencies in deep learning, NLP/LLMs, and/or computer vision.
- Demonstrated ability to convert research innovations into production-quality systems.
- Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in MLOps, big data pipelines, and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead and collaborate effectively across diverse technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in healthcare AI, biomedical informatics, computational genomics, or medical imaging research or applied projects.
- Familiarity with healthcare data standards and regulatory constraints, including EHR systems, HL7/FHIR protocols, and HIPAA or other data privacy requirements.
- Prior experience in leading or mentoring research or technical teams is highly desirable.
