Turing is a leading company specializing in AGI infrastructure, collaborating with cutting-edge AI labs to accelerate the development of advanced models. The company focuses on delivering high-quality training data, rigorous evaluations, and top-tier engineering talent to push the boundaries of artificial intelligence. Currently, Turing is seeking experts in Physical Sciences to contribute to the creation of realistic, terminal-based scientific tasks that help benchmark AI capabilities in scientific reasoning and problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design complex, multi-step terminal tasks that reflect authentic physical science workflows, ensuring computational environments are self-contained with fixed dependencies and appropriate scientific software.
- Develop input datasets, including molecular structures, simulation parameters, experimental data, or model configurations relevant to physics, chemistry, materials science, astronomy, or computational science.
- Implement expert-level solutions using programming languages such as Python, Bash, C/C++, Julia, or other domain-specific tools. Tasks may involve simulations, numerical modeling, data fitting, optimization, spectroscopy, molecular analysis, or scientific visualization.
- Create automated tests to verify numerical accuracy, physical consistency, convergence, and output structure. Define suitable numerical tolerances, units, boundary conditions, and expected scientific behaviors to ensure robustness.
- Ensure all tasks are reproducible and execute successfully without requiring runtime downloads. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to dependencies, numerical precision, solver stability, performance, and file formats.
Required Qualifications:
- A Ph.D., postdoctoral experience, or equivalent advanced technical expertise in a relevant physical science discipline such as physics, chemistry, materials science, astronomy, or computational science.
- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in scientific computing, including Python, C/C++, Julia, or Bash.
- Experience working in Linux or other terminal-based environments, with comfort navigating command-line interfaces.
- Strong background in numerical methods, scientific modeling, simulations, or quantitative data analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to independently create, validate, and debug computational scientific workflows.
Engagement Details:
This is a contractor role requiring a commitment of at least 6 hours per day and a minimum of 40 hours per week, with a mandatory 4-hour overlap with Pacific Standard Time (PST). The contract duration is five weeks, with an expected start date in the near term. Compensation is task-based, with payment of $300 for each approved task completed. Please note that this is a contractor assignment and does not include medical benefits or paid leave.
This opportunity is ideal for physical science professionals who enjoy applying their expertise to develop reproducible scientific benchmarks and contribute to advancing AI’s ability to solve complex scientific problems through terminal-based workflows.
