Senior Backend Engineer - Full Stack

PackageX is developing a Physical Logistics Execution Platform designed for enterprise teams operating across manufacturing sites, distribution centers, warehouses, retail locations, and other logistics-intensive environments. The platform leverages Vision AI, workflow automation, mobile execution, and integrations to digitize, execute, and verify physical operations at the point of work, providing trusted evidence of actual events. We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer (Full Stack) to design, build, and scale the backend services, APIs, and integrations that support thousands of devices sending scans, photos, and workflow events daily, often under challenging connectivity conditions. This role involves close collaboration with product, mobile, AI, and implementation teams to transform complex physical operations into reliable software solutions. While the position is backend-focused, it also requires full-stack capabilities to develop web dashboards, configuration tools, and admin screens that interface with your APIs. You will own features end-to-end—from data modeling to UI—make architectural decisions, manage production services, and engage directly with customers during complex integrations.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop backend services and APIs powering the PackageX platform, mobile applications, and web console.
- Model data for complex, configurable workflows involving events, evidence, and customer configurations, ensuring consistency at scale.
- Build and maintain integrations with customer ERPs, WMSs, TMSs, third-party APIs, webhooks, and data exports.
- Implement event-driven and asynchronous processing using queues, workers, and scheduled jobs.
- Develop backend components for Vision AI features, including image ingestion, processing pipelines, and result storage, collaborating closely with the AI team.
- Manage offline synchronization and conflict resolution for data from mobile devices operating in low-connectivity environments.
- Build full-stack web features using React and Svelte, including dashboards, configuration tools, admin panels, and reporting interfaces.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, slow queries, and reliability issues proactively.
- Own production services, including deployment, monitoring, logging, alerting, on-call duties, and post-incident remediation.
- Ensure platform security through access control and multi-tenant data isolation.
- Write comprehensive tests, conduct code reviews, and maintain clear design documentation and API references.
- Participate in customer and implementation discussions to address integration or data challenges, advocating for reusable platform solutions over one-off fixes.

Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience building and operating production backend services.
- Proficiency in Node.js/TypeScript, Python, or Go.
- Strong knowledge of relational databases (MySQL and PostgreSQL), including schema design, indexing, query optimization, and migrations.
- Experience designing APIs and integrating with third-party or enterprise systems.
- Familiarity with message queues and asynchronous processing frameworks such as SQS, RabbitMQ, or Kafka.
- Hands-on experience deploying and managing services on AWS or GCP, using Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
- Proven ability to develop production-ready web features using React.
- Comfortable working with Svelte or the ability to learn it quickly.
- Ability to own features end-to-end, from database schema design to UI implementation.
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to handle ambiguous problems and make informed decisions without complete specifications.
