PackageX is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer (Full Stack) to join our team and help build and scale the core services, APIs, and integrations that power our Physical Logistics Execution Platform. This platform supports enterprise teams across manufacturing sites, warehouses, distribution centers, and retail locations by digitizing and verifying physical operations through Vision AI, workflow automation, and mobile execution. In this role, you will work closely with product, mobile, AI, and implementation teams to transform complex physical workflows into reliable software solutions that perform seamlessly in production. You will primarily focus on backend development while also owning frontend features, enabling you to deliver end-to-end solutions from data models to user interfaces.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop backend services and APIs that support the PackageX platform, mobile applications, and web console.
- Model complex, configurable workflows involving events, evidence, and customer configurations, ensuring data consistency and scalability.
- Build and maintain integrations with customer ERP, WMS, TMS systems, third-party APIs, webhooks, and data export mechanisms.
- Implement event-driven and asynchronous processing using queues, workers, and scheduled jobs.
- Develop backend components for Vision AI features, including image ingestion, processing pipelines, and result storage, collaborating closely with the AI team.
- Manage offline synchronization and conflict resolution for data collected from mobile devices operating in low-connectivity environments.
- Create full-stack web features such as dashboards, configuration tools, admin panels, and reporting interfaces using React and Svelte.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, slow queries, and reliability issues proactively.
- Own production services including deployment, monitoring, logging, alerting, on-call support, and post-incident remediation.
- Ensure platform security through access control and multi-tenant data isolation.
- Write comprehensive tests, conduct code reviews, and maintain clear design documentation and API references.
- Participate in customer and implementation discussions to troubleshoot integration challenges and promote reusable platform solutions over one-off fixes.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years experience building and maintaining production backend services.
- Proficiency in Node.js/TypeScript, Python, or Go.
- Strong knowledge of relational databases, including schema design, indexing, query optimization, and migrations (experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL preferred).
- Experience designing APIs and integrating with third-party or enterprise systems.
- Familiarity with message queues and asynchronous processing frameworks such as SQS, RabbitMQ, or Kafka.
- Hands-on experience deploying and operating services on cloud platforms like AWS or GCP, using Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
- Proven ability to deliver production-ready web features using React.
- Comfortable working full stack, owning features from database schema through to UI implementation.
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical team members.
- Ability to navigate ambiguous problems and make sound architectural decisions without complete specifications.
- A strong understanding of customer workflows and the impact of your work on end users.
Preferred Qualifications and Additional Benefits
- Experience integrating with logistics and enterprise systems such as ERP, WMS, or TMS.
- Background in image processing pipelines, machine learning-backed products, or mobile backends with offline sync capabilities.
- Prior involvement in building or operating multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
- Familiarity with logistics, supply chain, manufacturing, warehousing, or other operations-intensive industries.
PackageX values a collaborative environment where engineers take full ownership of their work and contribute across the stack. If you enjoy working at the intersection of backend engineering and frontend development, and thrive in solving complex, real-world problems in logistics technology, this role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact.
