Senior Backend Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team and play a pivotal role in scaling our core API and data infrastructure from thousands to millions of daily events. In this role, you will design and develop reliable backend systems, collaborate closely with product teams, and make informed technical decisions that balance scalability, performance, and business objectives. This is a full-time remote position, working during U.S. business hours.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, build, and deploy resilient backend services that support high volumes of daily events.
- Develop and maintain scalable APIs and data-layer infrastructure, primarily using PostgreSQL and background job systems.
- Implement effective testing strategies to ensure code quality and system reliability.
- Establish and maintain observability tools to monitor backend service performance and reliability.
- Identify and resolve issues related to scalability, performance, and system resilience as the platform grows.
- Collaborate closely with product teams to define project scope, understand business requirements, and make technical tradeoffs.
- Balance engineering excellence with practical delivery timelines to meet business goals.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum of 5 years of experience building and shipping backend systems in production environments.
- Strong proficiency in Python or Go programming languages.
- Advanced SQL skills with hands-on experience working with PostgreSQL databases.
- Proven experience designing and maintaining production APIs and backend services.
- Solid understanding of background jobs and asynchronous processing mechanisms.
- Practical approach to testing and ensuring software quality.
- Demonstrated ability to build reliable and scalable systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and sound technical decision-making capabilities.
- Effective collaboration skills to work with product and cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working with high-volume event pipelines and systems processing large volumes of daily events.
- Knowledge of GDPR-compliant data handling and privacy-conscious system design principles.
- Experience scaling backend systems from thousands to millions of daily events.
