Senior DB Architect - DB2 to AWS Aurora Migration (Relocation job to Malaysia)

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Database Architect with over 10 years of experience to lead the migration and modernization of DB2 databases to AWS Aurora PostgreSQL. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database architecture, strategy development, and stakeholder management. This role requires excellent documentation and presentation abilities, as well as the capability to guide technical teams through complex migration projects. The Senior DB Architect will be responsible for defining the overall migration strategy, designing the target AWS Aurora architecture, and ensuring a smooth transition with minimal disruption.

Key Responsibilities

- Define and develop the migration and modernization strategy for transitioning from DB2 to AWS Aurora PostgreSQL.
- Conduct discovery workshops and detailed assessments to understand the current environment and requirements.
- Prepare high-level and low-level design documents (HLD, LLD), migration design documentation, and runbooks to guide the migration process.
- Develop and deliver executive and technical presentations to communicate architecture and migration plans effectively.
- Design the AWS Aurora target architecture, including schema conversion and migration planning.
- Lead cutover strategy development, ensuring a seamless transition with minimal downtime.
- Define and implement high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), backup, and recovery architectures.
- Drive governance, risk management, and conduct architecture reviews to maintain compliance and quality standards.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to DBAs, developers, and project teams throughout the migration lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

- Extensive experience with IBM DB2 LUW, including SQL and performance tuning.
- Proficiency in AWS Aurora PostgreSQL/MySQL, Amazon RDS, Database Migration Service (DMS), and Schema Conversion Tool (SCT).
- Strong expertise in migration assessment, validation, reconciliation, and rollback planning to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
- Excellent documentation skills, with the ability to create detailed proposals and technical presentations.
- Proven customer-facing consulting experience, including effective stakeholder management and communication.
- Solid knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems and scripting skills in Shell and Python for automation and operational tasks.
