Senior Legal Manager

The Senior Legal Manager position is a full-time, on-site role based in Karachi. This role involves managing all legal aspects related to UMA’s shipping, logistics, and corporate operations. The incumbent will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and agreements, ensuring compliance with both local and international laws, and providing legal counsel to senior management on operational and strategic matters. The role also requires overseeing regulatory filings, managing disputes and litigation in collaboration with external legal counsel, and staying current with maritime, commercial, and labor laws applicable to the business.

Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, agreements, and legal documents related to shipping, logistics, and corporate activities.
- Ensure compliance with local and international legal and regulatory frameworks affecting the company’s operations.
- Provide strategic legal advice to management to support business decisions and mitigate risks.
- Manage regulatory filings and maintain relationships with regulatory authorities.
- Coordinate and oversee disputes, litigation, and legal proceedings in partnership with external counsel.
- Develop and implement internal legal policies and conduct legal risk assessments.
- Deliver training and awareness programs on compliance and legal requirements for various teams.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments to support business growth while safeguarding the company’s legal interests.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of maritime, commercial, and labor law developments relevant to the industry.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law from a recognized institution.
- Extensive experience in a senior legal role, preferably within the shipping, logistics, or related sectors.
- Strong expertise in corporate, commercial, and maritime law.
- Proven ability to draft, review, and negotiate complex legal documents and contracts.
- Demonstrated experience in providing legal consulting and strategic advice to senior leadership.
- In-depth knowledge of legal compliance, regulatory requirements, risk management, and internal control frameworks.
- Successful track record in managing legal affairs, including disputes, litigation, and coordination with external legal counsel.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively across diverse teams and departments.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and accountability.
