We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Linux Engineer to lead the design, standardization, automation, and optimization of enterprise-wide Linux platforms. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on creating reusable solutions and capabilities that support Linux Operations and Infrastructure teams, rather than routine system administration tasks. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in enhancing Linux platform performance, security, and automation across diverse environments including bare-metal, VMware, OpenShift, and cloud.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and maintain enterprise-wide Linux platform standards and automated build solutions to ensure consistency and efficiency.
- Develop standardized OS and container golden images tailored for bare-metal, VMware, OpenShift, and cloud environments.
- Manage and improve provisioning tools such as Red Hat Satellite, Kickstart, PXE, DHCP, and Redfish to automate system deployment.
- Engineer and optimize RHEL platforms focusing on kernel, CPU, memory, I/O, and network/TCP performance enhancements.
- Define and enforce Linux security, hardening, configuration, and compliance standards across the organization.
- Create monitoring and observability solutions for Linux OS and Dell/HPE server infrastructure, integrating with tools like Splunk, ELK, SIEM, and AppDynamics.
- Automate patching, firmware updates, configuration management, monitoring, and compliance processes using Ansible, Bash, and Python.
- Develop AI-driven solutions aimed at improving Linux engineering workflows and business-as-usual operations.
- Provide support for Linux platforms running on OpenShift, VMware, Kubernetes, and various cloud environments.
- Serve as a Level 3 escalation point for critical incidents, leading root cause analysis and resolution efforts.
- Collaborate closely with Infrastructure, DevOps, Security, Enterprise Architecture, and BAU teams to define and implement future-state Linux standards.
- Engage with technology vendors and service partners to drive platform improvements and roadmap initiatives.
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation to address critical incidents promptly.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Over 12 years of experience working with Enterprise Linux, including a minimum of 5 years in Senior Linux Administration and 5 years in Linux Engineering roles.
- Strong hands-on expertise with RHEL versions 6 and above.
- Extensive experience managing Red Hat Satellite Server, with a preference for Kickstart proficiency.
- Deep knowledge of PXE, DHCP, Redfish, and automated OS provisioning techniques.
- Proven ability to create standardized OS and container images across on-premises, VMware, OpenShift, and cloud platforms.
- Solid expertise in Red Hat OpenShift and practical experience with Kubernetes in cloud environments.
- Proficiency in automation and scripting tools such as Ansible, Bash, Python, Packer, and familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps technologies.
- Strong understanding of networking and infrastructure protocols including DNS, NFS, NTP, SNMP, SMTP, Active Directory, TCP/IP, and Ethernet.
- Advanced Linux troubleshooting skills, including kernel analysis, performance tuning, and system optimization.
- Experience with enterprise monitoring, logging, and SIEM solutions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Linux security hardening and configuration management practices.
- RHCE certification is mandatory; RHCA certification is considered a plus.
