PointofIT is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer with over four years of experience, based in Islamabad, Pakistan. This role is fully on-site at the F-5 office and focuses exclusively on structured tabular data, including training, classification, and time-series forecasting. The ideal candidate is deeply skilled in traditional statistical machine learning techniques and feature engineering, working primarily with rows and columns of data. This position is not related to Generative AI, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), or prompt engineering. Instead, it demands expertise in predictive modeling to drive critical business outcomes such as risk scoring, fraud detection, demand forecasting, and customer churn prediction.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, train, and deploy production-grade machine learning models tailored to tabular data challenges.
- Conduct thorough exploratory data analysis (EDA), manage complex missing data imputations, and address severe class imbalances. Engineer highly predictive features from large datasets.
- Develop and maintain scalable, robust data preprocessing and model training pipelines using SQL and Python.
- Evaluate model performance rigorously using statistical metrics such as F1-Score, ROC-AUC, MAE, and RMSE. Monitor models in production for drift and optimize accordingly.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive hands-on experience with core machine learning algorithms, especially gradient-boosted trees and ensemble methods such as XGBoost, LightGBM, CatBoost, and Random Forests, along with classical regression and classification techniques.
- Proficiency in Python and key data libraries including Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-Learn.
- Advanced SQL skills for working with large relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Alchemy).
- Solid experience with infrastructure and MLOps tools, including Docker, Git for version control, and model tracking frameworks like MLflow or DVC.
- Experience with big data tools such as PySpark or Elasticsearch is a significant advantage.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
Candidates who have spent the last two years exclusively focused on chatbot development, fine-tuning large language models (LLMs) such as GPT or Llama, or working with RAG systems and LangChain/LangGraph workflows are not suitable for this role.
