The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), a leading not-for-profit healthcare institution in Karachi, Pakistan, is seeking a Senior Medical Officer to join its Medicine Department. The Senior Medical Officer will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care, working collaboratively with consultants and multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal clinical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide direct patient care and coordinate treatment plans under the supervision of consultants.
- Conduct daily rounds, perform initial patient evaluations, and order investigations in accordance with institutional protocols.
- Execute medical procedures such as pleural biopsy, chest tube insertion, central line insertion, Joe Cath insertion, and ascitic fluid aspiration, while managing medical emergencies within competency limits.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of clinical notes, progress reports, and patient care records in compliance with hospital standards.
- Counsel and educate patients and their families about diagnoses, treatment options, and ongoing healthcare needs.
- Facilitate timely and appropriate transfer of patients to other services or hospitals as per established policies.
- Actively engage in educational activities including Grand Rounds and Journal Clubs, and participate in quality improvement initiatives aligned with JCIA, ISO, and infection control standards.
- Provide administrative support by attending service line meetings, trainings, and contributing to quality enhancement projects.

Required Qualifications

- A minimum of 2 to 3 years of relevant clinical experience post-MBBS, including at least two years of residency training in Internal Medicine; OR
- Completion of a house job plus four years of Internal Medicine residency training; OR
- Between 3 to 8 years of relevant clinical experience for candidates holding an additional diploma or MCPS qualification.
- Demonstrated clinical competency in managing complex medical cases and emergencies.
- Strong clinical judgment and crisis management skills.
- Proficient in performing advanced medical procedures.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to document clinical information accurately.
- A patient-centered approach with effective counseling abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and a commitment to continuous professional development.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills focused on improving service delivery.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
