This role is primarily focused on product design, with approximately 60% of the work dedicated to designing user experiences and 40% to developing and maintaining design systems. The position involves simplifying complex operational challenges into polished, intuitive interfaces while ensuring consistency across nine products, treating the design system itself as a cohesive product rather than just a set of components. The balance between product design and design systems will shift according to business needs.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the product design process from problem definition through prototyping, validation, and final delivery, collaborating closely with product managers and engineers throughout scoping and QA phases. Design workflows for a variety of users—including owners, operators, managers, staff, and guests—across multiple platforms such as touch hardware, mobile, and desktop, accommodating scenarios like rush-hour use, one-handed operation, and low-training environments. Translate complex operational requirements into experiences that are simple, predictable, fast, and easy to learn. Deliver comprehensive designs covering edge cases, permissions, empty and error states, system feedback, and recovery paths. Create AI-assisted experiences that are explainable, controllable, and trustworthy for non-technical users. Balance user needs, business goals, accessibility standards, platform constraints, and design consistency, while challenging weak requirements and documenting key decisions. Validate designs through usability testing, interviews, contextual observation, heuristic evaluation, and product data analysis, clearly presenting rationale and facilitating constructive critique.
On the design systems side, create, extend, document, audit, and govern the design system across various surfaces using Atomic Design or similar methodologies. Define component anatomy, variants, properties, states, responsive behaviors, accessibility rules, and usage guidelines. Maintain design tokens for color, typography, spacing, radius, elevation, and sizing. Make informed decisions about when components should be shared, adapted, or intentionally separated across different products and screen types. Improve the existing design library by identifying inconsistencies and design debt, retiring redundant components, and establishing contribution, versioning, and deprecation policies. Ensure alignment between Figma and production environments by collaborating closely with engineering on code-connected components, token pipelines, and design-to-code workflows.
Required Qualifications
A minimum of six years of professional product design experience, including at least two years focused on building or maintaining design systems used by multiple teams or products, preferably within complex SaaS, enterprise, operational, or platform environments. A strong portfolio demonstrating individual ownership, clear problem definition, constraints, explored alternatives, decision rationale, iteration, and measurable outcomes. Experience designing across multiple device categories such as web, desktop, tablet, mobile, kiosks, POS, or other touch interfaces, with a solid understanding of touch design principles including target sizing, ergonomics, glanceability, viewing distance, information density, and error tolerance. Expert-level proficiency in Figma, including components, nested components, variants, properties, variables, modes, Auto Layout, libraries, advanced prototyping, and scalable file architecture. Deep expertise in UX and UI design encompassing information architecture, interaction design, user flows, research, usability testing, WCAG accessibility standards, and strong visual judgment in typography, layout, hierarchy, color, iconography, forms, and data-heavy interfaces. Proven experience using AI tools to significantly enhance productivity and quality. Excellent written and spoken English communication skills, strong presentation abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and comfort working in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
