PackageX is seeking a Senior QA Automation Engineer to ensure the reliability and quality of its Physical Logistics Execution Platform, which supports enterprise teams across manufacturing sites, distribution centers, warehouses, and retail locations. This role is critical in maintaining seamless operations where software failures directly impact workers on the floor. The ideal candidate will lead automation efforts across mobile apps, web platforms, SDKs, and Vision AI workflows, integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines while performing hands-on validation for complex scenarios that automation cannot fully cover.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain automation frameworks for the React Native mobile app using WebdriverIO and Appium with Mocha, as well as for the web platform using Playwright, and APIs/SDKs with Vitest.
- Build and enhance Playwright-based web automation, including leveraging MCP servers to accelerate test creation and maintenance while ensuring test reliability.
- Manage failure triage, detect flaky tests, and conduct coverage analysis, proactively fixing issues rather than suppressing them.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive SDK test coverage, including integration harnesses, sample applications, contract tests, and cross-version regression suites.
- Integrate all test suites into CI/CD pipelines to catch regressions on every pull request and build, with clear reporting and traceability using tools like Allure, JUnit, and Testmo.
- Conduct exploratory and manual testing on real Android and iOS devices, including rugged handheld scanners used by customers.
- Test Vision AI features under real-world conditions such as poor lighting, damaged labels, angled shots, and low-end devices.
- Validate offline functionality, data synchronization, and recovery processes when network connectivity is interrupted mid-workflow.
- Reproduce and isolate customer-reported issues, providing engineers with detailed repro steps, logs, and screenshots to avoid unresolved bugs.
- Engage early in requirements and design discussions to identify gaps, advocate for testability improvements such as test IDs, mocks, seeded data, and environment parity.
- Provide evidence-based go/no-go recommendations for releases, tracking key metrics including defect leakage, coverage, flaky-test rates, and escaped bugs.
- Manage test data, environments, and the device lab to maintain healthy test suites and reasonable execution times.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years in QA engineering with a primary focus on test automation.
- Proven experience building or significantly extending automation frameworks independently.
- Deep knowledge of Playwright, including experience driving it through MCP servers.
- Hands-on experience with mobile automation using WebdriverIO and Appium for React Native or native apps.
- Proficient in JavaScript/TypeScript with code quality trusted by engineering teams.
- Experience writing API, integration, or component tests using Vitest or Jest.
- Familiarity with integrating test suites into CI/CD pipelines using platforms such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Bitrise.
- Strong manual and exploratory testing skills, including disciplined test planning and execution on physical Android and iOS devices across multiple OS versions and hardware tiers.
- Comfortable using API testing tools, analyzing logs, and performing basic SQL queries to diagnose issues beyond the UI.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with engineers, product managers, and customer-facing teams.
- Ability to make data-driven decisions and confidently declare release readiness based on evidence.
- Proactive in creating structure and clarity in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Experience testing SDKs or developer-facing products.
- Familiarity with Allure reporting and test management tools such as Testmo or TestRail.
- Background in testing camera-driven features, barcode scanning, OCR, or ML/Vision AI outputs.
- Knowledge of performance and load testing tools like k6, JMeter, or Gatling.
- Previous work experience in logistics, supply chain, manufacturing, warehousing, or other operations-intensive industries.
This role offers the opportunity to directly impact the quality and reliability of software that powers critical physical logistics operations, combining advanced automation with hands-on testing in a dynamic, mission-critical environment.
