Oasis Digital is developing BackMyRun, an innovative iOS app that delivers voice notes from friends and family to runners at specific distances during races. The platform also includes a web page for supporters to record messages and an admin portal for management. The technology stack features React Native with Expo (EAS builds), Next.js, and Supabase. To ensure quality, the team seeks reliable automated testing on BrowserStack using real iPhones and browsers before every release.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for two main phases. First, a one-time setup involving taking over an existing WebdriverIO and Appium test suite (with 20+ specs), stabilizing it on BrowserStack (App Automate and Automate), filling any gaps, integrating it with continuous integration (CI), and documenting the process clearly. After this initial phase, you will be engaged on an hourly basis as needed to update tests when features change and to run test cycles before releases, with no minimum hours required.
Your work will include testing the iOS app on real devices via BrowserStack App Automate using Expo EAS builds. You will simulate GPS location to mimic a run and verify that voice notes play at the correct distances, even when the phone is locked. Additional testing areas include push notifications, user sign-up and sign-in flows (including Apple and Google authentication), and offline behavior. You will also conduct web tests for the supporter page and admin portal across desktop and mobile browsers using BrowserStack Automate.
Managing test data in Supabase by seeding and cleaning it up will be part of your responsibilities. Running the test suite within CI environments (GitHub Actions) is essential, ensuring that screenshots, videos, and logs are captured when tests fail. You will also focus on fixing flaky tests and maintaining a clear README so that any team member can run the suite effectively.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must have at least three years of experience in test automation, including hands-on work with BrowserStack App Automate on real iOS devices in production environments. Strong proficiency in WebdriverIO and Appium using TypeScript is essential. You should have in-depth knowledge of iOS automation, including working with the XCUITest driver, handling system permission dialogs, and managing device backgrounding and locking. Experience running mobile test suites in CI pipelines is required. Excellent written English skills and dependable communication are critical for success in this role.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
Experience testing React Native and Expo apps is highly desirable. Familiarity with geolocation simulation on BrowserStack and managing test data in Supabase or Postgres is a plus. Knowledge of Android automation is also beneficial, as there may be plans to expand testing to Android devices in the future.
Applicants should submit their CV along with answers to specific screening questions. In the application, please describe a BrowserStack mobile test suite you have built, including what it tested, the approximate number of tests, and the CI environment used. Provide a link to a repository, code sample, or screen recording demonstrating your automation work. Include a rough estimate of hours or fixed price for the initial setup and your availability. Note that the team operates in Dubai (UTC+4), which is one hour behind Pakistan. Applications missing these details will not be considered.
