Senior SCADA Engineer

HMF Project Management and Consultants Ltd is looking for an experienced Senior SCADA Engineer to join its engineering team in Pakistan. This role supports the UK-based SCADA and Real Time Systems team on significant SSEN Transmission and Distribution projects. The position offers a unique chance to work directly on UK power utility projects alongside skilled engineers, focusing on SCADA design, substation automation, system integration, testing, and commissioning support. The role is office-based in Karachi, Lahore, or Islamabad, requiring at least four hours of daily overlap with UK working hours.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop SCADA and substation automation architectures for transmission and distribution substations.
- Engineer IEC 61850 systems, including SCD, ICD, CID, GOOSE, and MMS configurations.
- Configure RTUs, gateways, bay controllers, station HMIs, and protocol converters.
- Design industrial communication networks covering VLANs, IP addressing, redundancy, and network segmentation.
- Apply OT cybersecurity principles such as firewall rules and secure remote access.
- Work with IEC 60870-5-101/104, DNP3, and Modbus protocols.
- Develop SCADA databases, HMI displays, alarm lists, and control logic.
- Produce technical specifications, network diagrams, signal lists, and I/O schedules.
- Prepare FAT, SAT, and point-to-point test documentation.
- Support technical reviews, FAT preparation, and remote troubleshooting during testing and commissioning.
- Collaborate closely with the UK engineering team to deliver robust engineering packages.

Required Qualifications
- Over 10 years of experience in SCADA design and development within power utilities, substations, or utility-scale energy projects.
- Strong understanding of SCADA architectures, control philosophies, interlocking, redundancy, and failover mechanisms.
- Hands-on experience with IEC 61850 engineering.
- Proficiency with IEC 60870-5-101/104 and DNP3 protocols.
- Experience configuring multiple SCADA and OEM platforms.
- Solid industrial networking knowledge, including managed switches, VLANs, routing, PRP/HSR, RSTP, and time synchronization.
- Working knowledge of OT cybersecurity and IEC 62443 standards.
- Proven ability to prepare detailed technical documentation and engineering deliverables.
- Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Control, or Computer Engineering.
- Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to collaborate effectively with UK-based teams.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Experience working with UK utilities, particularly SSEN or other UK network operators.
- Multi-vendor SCADA system integration expertise.
- Familiarity with ENA specifications, NIS Regulations, and the NCSC Cyber Assessment Framework.
- Experience with Fortinet or Palo Alto Networks cybersecurity products.
- Background in renewable energy and storage projects, including solar PV, BESS, wind, and PPC interfaces.
- Relevant vendor, networking, or cybersecurity certifications.
- Registration with the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).
