Senior Software Developer

Contour Software, a rapidly growing subsidiary of Constellation Software Inc., is seeking a Senior Developer to join its Desktop team. With over 2,000 employees across three cities, Contour supports global enterprise software solutions spanning more than 100 industry domains. The Desktop team maintains critical Windows applications built on Visual Basic 6 (VB6) and COM, which remain essential to customers while modern web versions are developed. This senior role focuses on deeply understanding and improving legacy VB6 code using AI tools, ensuring product stability, and helping guide the transition from desktop to web-based solutions. The position involves collaboration across teams, including Product and Infrastructure, within an AI-Driven Development Lifecycle (AI-DLC) framework.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical efforts on VB6 desktop products, including defect resolution, enhancements, and software releases.
- Act as the senior technical resource for complex issues and critical customer support.
- Maintain product stability, supportability, and documentation for legacy applications.
- Identify and improve inefficient or error-prone steps in build, test, and release processes.
- Enhance usage of GitHub and Azure DevOps (ADO) to ensure consistent tracking, review, and deployment.
- Utilize Claude Code or similar AI tools to automate analysis, testing, and documentation tasks.
- Establish and share best practices to benefit the entire Desktop team.
- Analyze legacy VB6 code to map workflows, extract business rules, and assess risks prior to changes.
- Develop and maintain characterization tests to capture current application behavior for comparison with web versions.
- Collaborate with Product teams to determine which business rules transition to web products.
- Apply AI-DLC methodologies to safely integrate AI in legacy code development and review AI-generated changes thoroughly.
- Use GitHub for source control and pull requests, and Azure DevOps for work item management.
- Partner with Infrastructure & IT teams on builds, releases, and environment management.
- Mentor team members and document knowledge to ensure continuity.

Required Qualifications
- Minimum 6 years of professional software development experience, including significant production work with VB6.
- Strong understanding of Windows desktop application architecture, data access, and debugging in VB6 environments.
- Proficient with COM, ActiveX components, Windows registry, and legacy 32-bit application behavior on modern Windows systems.
- Experience analyzing and documenting large legacy codebases into clear, actionable descriptions.
- Daily hands-on experience with Claude Code or comparable agentic coding tools, with demonstrable examples.
- Working knowledge of AI-Driven Development Lifecycle (AI-DLC) principles applied to legacy software.
- Proficiency with GitHub and Azure DevOps (ADO) workflows.
- Proven ability to improve team processes related to build, test, and release cycles and ensure sustainable adoption.
- Senior-level judgment to assess risks, communicate trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders, and prioritize work effectively.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
