Zayyh is an Australia-based health technology startup developing a mobile app alongside a connected wearable band, launching simultaneously on iOS and Android. Our engineering team operates on-site in Islamabad, working closely within a small, collaborative group where every engineer significantly influences the product, architecture, and development processes.
Key Responsibilities
Design and build across the entire system, including the mobile app, native code, and backend infrastructure. You will take open-ended problems through research, design, and implementation, delivering working software on real devices. Your work will span React Native and TypeScript, Swift and Kotlin, Bluetooth LE, health data management, Postgres databases, serverless backend functions, and AI features. Responsibilities include designing end-to-end systems to ensure data integrity, privacy, and synchronization between wearable devices, phones, and the cloud, even when connections are unstable. You will develop features across the stack—from React Native UI screens to native modules, database schemas, migrations, backend APIs, and serverless functions. Translating Figma designs into production-ready UI with comprehensive state handling (loading, error, offline, accessibility) is essential. Prior to building, you will research platform documentation and SDKs, conduct experiments, and produce concise design notes with recommendations. You will troubleshoot complex issues such as incorrect or missing data and device-specific bugs. Code reviews and mentoring teammates to elevate code quality and testing standards are part of the role. Additionally, you will contribute to shaping the product’s architecture as it evolves.
Required Qualifications
A minimum of six years of professional software engineering experience, including at least three years focused on mobile apps released on the App Store or Google Play. Strong expertise in TypeScript and production-level React Native development is essential, with deep native mobile experience (Swift or Kotlin) highly valued. Experience writing production code beyond UI screens—such as native modules, background tasks, or platform APIs like Bluetooth—is required. Proven backend and database design skills are necessary, including relational schema design, migrations, API development, and a strong understanding of security, access control, and data integrity, preferably with Postgres. You should be able to confidently defend system design decisions made in production, explaining trade-offs and outcomes. Strong research and critical thinking skills are critical; you must be comfortable questioning assumptions and clearly communicating uncertainties. Excellent written and verbal English communication skills are required for writing design notes, pull request descriptions, and explaining technical trade-offs to non-engineers.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
Experience with both Swift and Kotlin in production environments is a plus. Familiarity with Bluetooth LE (CoreBluetooth, Android BLE), background execution on mobile platforms, and wearable integrations is advantageous. Knowledge of health data frameworks such as HealthKit or Health Connect is beneficial, as is experience with offline-first applications and data synchronization. Exposure to Supabase, Postgres row-level security, serverless functions, and features built on large language model APIs will be considered a strong asset. Skills in React Native animation and gesture handling libraries (Reanimated, Gesture Handler) and prior experience at early-stage startups are desirable.
We follow a disciplined development process where every change undergoes pull requests, code reviews, and automated testing. A feature is considered complete only when it works on real iPhone and Android devices. Before major changes, short design notes are written to document decisions. The team is small, enabling direct communication and real ownership, working closely with the founder and engineering colleagues.
What We Offer
A competitive salary paid in PKR, discussed during the interview process. You will receive a MacBook, test iPhone and Android devices, and our wearable for development and testing. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Bahria Town Phase 7, Islamabad, with working hours from Monday to Friday, 10 am to 6 pm. You will have genuine ownership of architectural decisions in a product launching on two major platforms.
This position is open exclusively to candidates based in Islamabad. Applications must include a CV and answers to four specific questions in a single PDF: a link to an app you contributed to and your role, the hardest technical problem you solved, a system you designed including trade-offs, and your current and expected monthly salary along with your notice period. Applications without these details will not be shortlisted.
