Moniepoint Inc. is Africa’s leading all-in-one financial platform, serving over 20 million businesses and individuals each month with seamless payments, banking, credit, cross-border, and business management tools. As Nigeria’s largest merchant acquirer, Moniepoint powers the majority of the country’s point-of-sale (POS) transactions and processes over $250 billion in digital payment transaction value annually through its subsidiaries.
We are looking for an experienced Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to enhance the reliability of our highly distributed platform. In this role, you will leverage your deep understanding of distributed systems and strong coding skills to define Service Level Objectives (SLOs), lead incident response efforts, and develop automation and self-healing mechanisms. You will play a critical role in balancing immediate operational stability with strategic engineering initiatives to ensure our services scale effectively alongside our rapid growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in on-call rotations and act as Incident Commander during major severity incidents by initiating war rooms, coordinating cross-functional teams, and providing clear status updates.
- Instrument code to expose high-cardinality metrics and distributed traces. Collaborate with product owners to define, measure, and defend SLOs and error budgets.
- Write high-quality, production-ready code in Java, Go, or Python to build internal tools, automation platforms, and self-healing systems that reduce manual intervention.
- Partner with Product Engineering teams during the design phase to ensure new services incorporate reliability, scalability, and observability patterns such as circuit breakers, rate limiting, backpressure, and fallback strategies from inception.
- Analyze system performance and traffic patterns to model future capacity needs. Conduct load testing and chaos engineering experiments to validate system resilience under failure conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Site Reliability Engineering or Backend Engineering with strong proficiency in writing clean, performant, and tested code using Java, Go, Rust, or Python.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems architecture and design patterns, with solid knowledge of microservices fundamentals and event-driven architectures.
- Extensive experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or equivalent cloud providers (AWS/Azure), including running production workloads on Kubernetes (GKE/EKS) and troubleshooting cluster and infrastructure issues.
- Proven ability to design observability strategies using tools such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, New Relic, Datadog, or SigNoz to enhance system visibility.
- Familiarity with operating and tuning production data stores like PostgreSQL or MySQL, as well as streaming platforms such as Kafka or RabbitMQ in high-throughput environments.
