We are seeking a hands-on Software Architect to lead the technical design of our modernization initiatives and AI-first development efforts. In this role, you will shape the architecture of new systems, modernize legacy applications, and ensure seamless integration within a .NET and Azure environment. This position requires active coding and prototyping to validate complex design challenges, setting the architectural direction for Technical Leads to follow. If you are an architect who enjoys staying close to the code and solving difficult design problems, this opportunity is ideal for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the architecture for modernization and AI-driven projects, guiding the process from conceptual design to practical implementation.
- Develop strategies for modernizing or replacing legacy applications, taking into account the complexities and constraints of existing systems.
- Establish architectural standards, patterns, and guardrails that Technical Leads and engineers adhere to during development.
- Maintain a hands-on approach by prototyping challenging components, writing critical code, and validating designs beyond documentation.
- Make decisive technology choices across .NET and Azure platforms and confidently support these decisions.
- Collaborate closely with Technical Leads and the Head of Engineering to ensure alignment between architecture and delivery timelines.
- Balance ideal architectural designs with real-world constraints such as time, budget, and legacy system limitations.
Required Qualifications
- Over 12 years of experience in software engineering with substantial hands-on architecture work on production systems.
- Deep expertise in both .NET Framework and modern .NET, along with strong proficiency in the Azure cloud platform.
- Demonstrated success in architecting modernization or migration projects involving legacy systems, not limited to greenfield development.
- Active coding skills, capable of building solutions rather than solely producing architectural diagrams.
- Strong understanding of system design, integration patterns, data management, and the trade-offs involved in each area.
- Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring engineering teams.
- Excellent communication skills, able to clearly explain and justify architectural decisions to both technical teams and executive leadership.
- A results-driven mindset focused on delivering working solutions rather than leaving designs theoretical.
- An AI-first approach, leveraging AI tools in design and development processes and encouraging teams to adopt similar practices.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Experience in title insurance, real estate, or financial services sectors is advantageous.
- Opportunity to lead architecture for cutting-edge projects with significant influence on organizational technology direction.
- Freedom to remain hands-on with coding while shaping the broader technical vision.
- Work within a culture that values courage, honesty, customer focus, accountability, persistence, and teamwork.
At Stewart, our core values guide everything we do. We seek individuals who are courageous and honest in making tough design decisions, customer-oriented in delivering business outcomes, accountable for their work through to production, persistent in overcoming technical challenges, and committed to raising the technical standards of their teams. If you want to architect and build simultaneously, this role offers a unique chance to do both.
