Software Developer

Contour Software, a rapidly growing subsidiary of Constellation Software Inc., is seeking a skilled Software Developer to join the team behind PerseusPay, a cloud-native payments platform serving marine, outdoor power equipment, and RV dealers across the US and Canada. This role offers the opportunity to build new features on a secure, PCI-compliant platform used by hundreds of dealer locations. You will take ownership of features from initial, often incomplete briefs through design, development, testing, and deployment, working across backend APIs, UI components, and payment processor integrations. The dynamic nature of payments products requires adaptability to changing requirements driven by processor behavior, compliance, partner needs, and user feedback.

Key Responsibilities
- Translate product requirements and user stories into production-ready features, clarifying scope, designing solutions, building, testing, and releasing behind feature flags.
- Develop and maintain REST APIs, background processes, and database updates using C# and .NET technologies.
- Build and enhance React-based user interfaces for dealer portals, embedded payment pages, and checkout plugins.
- Integrate with payment processor APIs and webhooks, thoroughly analyzing documentation to identify critical edge cases.
- Identify gaps or contradictions in requirements and proactively propose solutions to Product Owners and R&D leadership.
- Adjust plans swiftly in response to scope changes, communicating impacts on delivery timelines clearly.
- Write comprehensive unit and integration tests, participate in code reviews, and adhere to SonarQube and secure coding standards.
- Ensure production stability through structured logging, robust error handling, idempotency, retries, and concurrency safety on financial transactions.
- Support QA teams with test data, bug fixes, and release validation activities.
- Maintain up-to-date technical documentation, decision records, and Azure DevOps work items for traceability.
- Utilize AI-assisted development tools, including Claude Code, within established security protocols.

Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of professional software development experience with strong expertise in C#, .NET, and ASP.NET Core REST API development.
- Proficient in SQL Server, including schema design, query optimization, transaction management, and understanding of locking and deadlocks.
- Hands-on experience with Azure services such as App Services, Functions, Service Bus, and Application Insights.
- Working knowledge of React and JavaScript sufficient to independently deliver UI features.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver features amid incomplete or evolving requirements, with examples ready for discussion.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently across multiple time zones, making sound decisions and escalating appropriately.
- Excellent written communication skills, comfortable with collaboration primarily through written channels like Azure DevOps and Teams.
- Strong engineering discipline including unit testing, code reviews, Git branching, and CI/CD practices.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and Azure DevOps tools.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude Code and knowledge of agentic engineering practices including spec-driven development and test-driven feedback loops.
- Ability to discuss AI-assisted feature development, including challenges encountered.
- Familiarity with MCP servers, multi-agent workflows, and evaluation of AI-generated code.
- Prior experience integrating payment processors.
- Knowledge of Redis caching, Azure Service Bus patterns, Datadog monitoring, Azure DevOps pipelines, and Terraform.
