This opportunity invites software developers, tech founders, engineering teams, and code owners worldwide to submit existing software repositories for licensing and revenue generation. Ideal candidates include those who possess codebases from abandoned startups, discontinued products, personal or side projects no longer maintained, internal tools or automation solutions developed for their own business, and previous SaaS products or platforms that are no longer commercially active. Projects do not need to be currently maintained or commercially successful to be considered, as long as clear ownership and licensing rights are established.
Key Responsibilities
- Submit your software repository for an initial evaluation to determine its licensing potential.
- Provide accurate and complete information about the codebase and ownership rights.
- Participate in the assessment process to receive an evaluation based on the repository’s code and acceptance criteria.
- Explore licensing opportunities if your repository qualifies.
- Negotiate and agree on licensing terms if a transaction proceeds.
- Ensure that the submitted code does not include third-party materials that cannot be sublicensed.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in software development or ownership of an existing software product, application, or repository.
- Full legal ownership or rights to license the submitted source code.
- Access to original code repositories, including those from discontinued products, abandoned projects, internal tools, or independently developed software.
- Ability to confirm that the code is free from third-party materials that cannot be sublicensed.
Compensation and Process
The evaluation and licensing process is designed to help code owners understand the potential value of their repositories without requiring a traditional development engagement. After submission, each repository undergoes an individual assessment to estimate its licensing value. Current reference rates for standard non-exclusive licensing are $100 per 1 million source-code tokens and $40 per 1 million Git-history tokens. These rates serve as a guideline, and you will have the opportunity to review the estimated value before deciding whether to proceed with licensing discussions. Compensation is provided according to the agreed terms once a licensing transaction is completed.
This opportunity is fully remote and open to applicants worldwide, making it accessible to a broad range of software creators and owners. It offers a unique way to monetize existing codebases that may otherwise remain unused, providing a revenue stream without the need for ongoing maintenance or commercial activity.
