Software Engineer I - Backend | NextGen Engineering

As part of the NextGen program, you will join a team dedicated to nurturing engineering excellence by mastering clean code practices, SOLID principles, and designing reliable, scalable systems. This program spans all areas of Careem’s technology stack, including Cyber Security, Data, Infrastructure, and Software Engineering tracks such as Backend, Frontend, and Mobile. You will collaborate with talented engineers passionate about distributed backend systems, scalability, and continuous improvement. This role offers exposure to cutting-edge projects and technologies, fostering accelerated learning and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain distributed backend systems that meet demanding functional, scalability, and reliability needs for a fast-growing business.
- Ensure high standards of code quality, maintainability, readability, and comprehensive testing.
- Collaborate effectively with engineers, product owners, and designers to solve complex and interesting challenges across the platform.
- Contribute as a valued member of an autonomous, cross-functional agile team.
- Deliver high-quality code consistently, demonstrating a strong commitment to excellence.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Solid understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to tackle complex technical challenges.
- Passion for writing clean, maintainable code and a genuine love for coding.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and work effectively with loosely defined problems and rapidly changing requirements.
- Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and working on products with massive scale and impact.
- Attention to detail and effective communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
