Software Engineer II - Backend | NextGen Engineering

You will join the NextGen Programme, designed to develop engineers by emphasizing clean code, SOLID principles, and reliable system design. This program spans diverse engineering domains including Backend, Frontend, Web, Mobile, Data Analysis, MLOps, Infrastructure, Cyber Security, and QA. As part of a talented engineering team, you will focus on distributed backend systems, their scalability, and ongoing development. You will collaborate with top-tier engineers and gain exposure to cutting-edge projects and technologies, accelerating your learning and growth.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain distributed backend systems that meet demanding functional, scalability, and reliability requirements for a fast-growing business.
- Ensure high standards of code quality, maintainability, readability, and thorough testing across features and systems.
- Collaborate effectively with engineers, product owners, and designers to solve complex and engaging problems across the platform.
- Contribute as a proactive member of an autonomous, cross-functional agile team.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to shipping high-quality, clean code that supports Careem’s mission.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- 2-4 years of professional experience in software engineering.
- Solid understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms.
- Proven ability to solve complex technical problems and write clean, maintainable code.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate technical challenges and solutions clearly.
- Comfortable working with loosely defined problems and adapting to fast-changing requirements.
- Passionate about learning new technologies and contributing to a product with massive scale and impact.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with Java 8, Spring Boot, Microservices architecture, SQL and NoSQL databases, and AWS infrastructure.
- Knowledge of clean code principles and design patterns.
- Familiarity with test-driven development (TDD).
- Understanding of cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
