The Specialist, Clinical Informaticist at Aga Khan University Hospital in Karachi plays a critical role in supporting the implementation and optimization of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. This position focuses on translating clinical workflows and requirements into standardized clinical content and system solutions. The role involves close collaboration with clinical, IT, quality, research, and informatics teams to enhance clinical workflows, data quality, reporting, and system usability. The specialist will also provide user training, go-live support, troubleshooting, and contribute to clinical research, education, analytics, and informatics initiatives, reporting directly to the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO).
Key Responsibilities
- Support EHR implementation and optimization by coordinating clinical workflows, documentation standards, standardized content, and performance measures with clinical and technical teams.
- Act as a liaison between clinical, informatics, and IT teams to translate clinical requirements into system enhancements and ensure alignment across EHR initiatives.
- Analyze clinical workflows to identify gaps and recommend improvements that enhance clinical efficiency, EHR utilization, and user experience.
- Provide EHR training, go-live support, troubleshooting, and ongoing assistance to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Facilitate clinical data reporting, performance monitoring, research, analytics, and educational initiatives through effective use of EHR information.
- Participate in focus groups and informatics workgroups to gather user requirements, feedback, and enhancement opportunities, supporting their implementation.
- Contribute to the development and standardization of clinical methodologies, EHR content, workflows, and data practices.
- Support clinical and medical researchers with data generation, analysis, interpretation, and research-related EHR needs.
- Collaborate with informatics teams across locations to promote consistent EHR content, workflows, analytics, and best practices.
- Provide ongoing support for EHR program activities, including implementation, optimization, change management, and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to clinical education and training initiatives through effective use of EHR systems and informatics resources.
- Undertake occasional travel and on-site support as required by program activities and operational needs.
Required Qualifications
- Medical graduate (MBBS, MBChB, or MD) with completion of structured postgraduate clinical training.
- Clinical rotation experience, preferably with exposure to Aga Khan University Hospital.
- Demonstrated experience in direct patient care within inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Sound knowledge of hospital and physician practice procedures, regulations, standards, and guidelines.
- Experience working effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams including physicians, nurses, residents, and students.
- Prior experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems is preferred.
- Strong understanding of healthcare operations, clinical workflows, and EHR systems.
- Proven project management and coordination skills, capable of working across multiple teams and managing timelines.
- Understanding of how data and analytics can improve clinical, operational, quality, and financial outcomes.
- Willingness to develop subject-matter expertise in assigned clinical workflows such as inpatient, outpatient, peri-operative, or oncology-related areas.
- Solid understanding of clinical care pathways, order management, and physician documentation.
- Exceptional leadership, interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
