The Specialist, Student Accounting, plays a vital role in supporting multiple functions within the Student Accounting Services office. This position requires comprehensive knowledge of student accounts, including current and former balances, collection accounts, student refunds, and 1098-T tax reporting. The incumbent ensures compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations while delivering excellent customer service to students, parents, and campus stakeholders. The role involves responding to inquiries via phone, email, and online chat, providing accurate account guidance, and assisting individuals in understanding institutional policies. Additionally, the Specialist supports operational continuity by cross-training across various office functions and contributing to a professional, customer-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Process student refunds and assist with pre-collection and collection activities, accounting for approximately 50% of duties.
- Respond promptly and professionally to incoming phone calls, chats, and emails regarding general office and student account inquiries, providing excellent customer service (35%).
- Manage tasks related to 1098-T processing, account reconciliations, invoicing, data audits, former student payment plans, and bankruptcy notifications (10%).
- Support office operations by completing additional duties and special projects as assigned (5%).

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree is required. A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of two years of relevant experience. Experience in student financial services, internal or external collections, accounting, or finance is preferred.

- This is an on-campus position requiring regular office hours as noted above.
- The position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
- Funding for this role is institutional.
- The position will remain open until filled.
