SQL Database Administrator

Located in Karachi, this full-time onsite position seeks an experienced SQL Engineer / SQL Database Administrator to take full ownership of the organization’s SQL environment. The successful candidate will work closely with the IT team to enhance the reliability, performance, security, and overall management of SQL Server databases. This role requires a hands-on professional with deep SQL Server expertise who can assess the current infrastructure, identify areas for improvement, and implement structured processes for database administration, backup management, maintenance, and reporting. The ideal candidate will be proactive, able to work independently, and committed to building a robust, well-documented, and efficient SQL environment that supports the company’s IT infrastructure needs.

Key Responsibilities
- Review and evaluate the existing SQL Server environment to identify risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive backup and recovery strategy, including scheduled backups, retention policies, and regular restore testing.
- Manage database maintenance tasks such as transaction log management, database growth monitoring, index maintenance, integrity checks, and storage capacity planning.
- Develop and maintain SQL scripts and automation tools to streamline administration, monitoring, and routine maintenance activities.
- Continuously monitor database health, performance, and availability, proactively resolving issues before they impact operations.
- Configure and manage SQL Server Agent jobs, scheduled tasks, alerts, and maintenance plans.
- Create database reports and dashboards to provide clear visibility into database health, performance, capacity, backup status, and other key metrics.
- Review and enhance database security, access permissions, and configuration settings to ensure compliance with best practices.
- Troubleshoot slow-running queries, performance bottlenecks, failed jobs, and other database-related incidents.
- Establish and maintain consistent standards, procedures, and documentation for SQL administration and ongoing maintenance.
- Collaborate with the wider IT team to improve overall system stability and resilience.

Required Qualifications
- Strong practical experience administering Microsoft SQL Server environments.
- Proficient in T-SQL, including writing, optimizing, and troubleshooting queries, stored procedures, and scripts.
- Proven expertise in designing and managing SQL Server backup and recovery solutions.
- Solid understanding of transaction logs, recovery models, database growth, and log file management.
- Experience with SQL Server Agent, scheduled jobs, maintenance tasks, and automation.
- Knowledge of database performance tuning, indexing, execution plans, and integrity checks.
- Ability to create SQL reports and monitoring solutions.
- Familiarity with SQL Server security, permissions, and best practices.
- Capability to assess existing environments, identify weaknesses, and implement practical improvements.
- Methodical approach to troubleshooting, documentation, and preventative maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Experience managing multiple SQL Server instances or databases.
- Familiarity with PowerShell scripting and administrative automation.
- Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Power BI, or other reporting tools.

The role offers a competitive monthly salary of up to Rs300,000 and the opportunity to work onsite at the company’s Karachi location.
