The Team Lead role involves guiding a team of engineers to deliver high-quality software solutions while fostering technical excellence and mentoring team members. This position requires a balance of hands-on technical leadership, people management, and full ownership of project delivery. The Team Lead acts as a key liaison between engineering teams, clients, and company leadership to ensure alignment and successful outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Mentorship:
Provide technical and career guidance to team members, supporting their professional growth. Share expertise in technologies, frameworks, and system architectures to help the team make informed decisions. Collaborate closely with engineers through peer programming and problem-solving sessions. Lead architectural discussions and contribute to high-level design. Participate actively in code reviews to maintain quality and best practices. Continuously upskill yourself and encourage learning within the team. Fulfill responsibilities expected of a Senior or Principal Software Engineer alongside leadership duties.
Project Ownership & Delivery:
Take full ownership of projects from requirements gathering through delivery and post-release support. Set clear, realistic goals to ensure timely and high-quality outcomes. Proactively identify risks and manage dependencies, scope, and timelines. Maintain focus on engineering quality, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
Client Collaboration & Product Thinking:
Lead client communications for assigned projects, working closely to clarify and refine requirements. Understand the client’s vision and translate it into actionable technical and product deliverables. Research industry trends and competitors to add value beyond implementation. Act as a trusted technical partner, shaping solutions rather than simply executing tasks.
Collaboration & Cross-Team Alignment:
Work closely with other Team Leads, Senior Engineers, and stakeholders to maintain consistency and high standards across teams. Share knowledge, challenges, and solutions to improve engineering practices. Foster a culture of collaboration, ownership, and accountability.
Performance Management & Team Development:
Manage the performance review cycle and track team and individual KPIs. Provide regular feedback and coaching to enhance skills and performance. Identify skill gaps and develop structured growth plans. Encourage initiative, ownership, and professional development within the team.
Hiring & Talent Building:
Participate in recruitment by conducting technical assessments and interviews. Focus on hiring top-performing engineers and continuously raising the bar for talent. Contribute to building and sustaining motivated, high-performing teams.
Process, Standards & Policy Enforcement:
Promote and enforce coding standards, guidelines, and best practices. Ensure adherence to engineering processes and workflows. Support policy implementation and conflict resolution to maintain a healthy work environment.
Strategic Contribution:
Support leadership in advancing the company’s technological vision through idea exchange and technical insights. Align team execution with broader business goals and KPIs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Over 5 years of professional software development experience, including Senior or Principal Engineer roles.
- Strong expertise with the MERN stack: MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL (with TypeORM and Drizzle ORM), Express.js, React, and Node.js. Proven ability to build scalable full-stack applications.
- Demonstrated experience managing teams and delivering projects end-to-end.
- Hands-on experience in client communication and team coordination.
- Solid technical foundation with excellent problem-solving skills and mentoring ability.
- Experience with Terraform for infrastructure provisioning and automation.
- Familiarity with NestJS Monorepo and Turborepo for scalable application and shared codebase management.
- Knowledge of AWS security and compliance controls, including IAM, encryption, secrets management, and network security.
- Understanding of data privacy, PHI/PII protection, and PCI-sensitive data handling. Strong experience implementing HIPAA, PCI DSS, and other security/compliance standards in web applications.
