This role involves leading a sales team and managing large-scale distributors to implement company strategies tailored to local business needs. The position requires training and motivating the team to meet both short-term targets and long-term organizational goals. The individual will be responsible for driving category growth, achieving volume targets, and ensuring smooth execution of sales and merchandising initiatives across territories. Close collaboration with various stakeholders and maintaining a strong presence in the field to understand customer needs are essential components of this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Set clear and SMART objectives to ensure the delivery of the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and Strategic Plan in alignment with regional goals, cascading these objectives to the territory team.
- Estimate and analyze category development potential within the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) portfolio and develop plans to consistently increase market share in each category.
- Implement and cascade action plans to the territory team to execute counter strategies effectively.
- Achieve monthly and quarterly volume targets along with brand and pack size deliverables.
- Review progress against objectives during weekly meetings and take corrective actions as necessary.
- Ensure accurate and timely flow of financial and sales data to Area Sales Managers (ASM) and Zonal Sales Managers (ZSM) to support strategic decision-making.
- Monitor and manage trade discounts in collaboration with the Trade Sales (TS) team on a monthly basis.
- Track distributor Return on Investment (ROI) and propose measures to enhance distributor profitability.
- Implement quality control measures at distributor outlets, including FIFO and stock level management.
- Oversee depot sales tracking and assist ASM/ZSM in strategic planning based on monthly data analysis.
- Identify untapped channels, new towns, and optimize rack productivity to improve market share.
- Develop team capabilities to address channel partner stability issues by evolving alternative Go-To-Market (GTM) mechanisms.
- Analyze and propose promotions with positive financial impact through rationalization of brand plans.
- Conduct market intelligence and competitor analysis, coordinating with ASM to develop response plans.
- Ensure smooth execution of new product launches in line with regional business strategies.
- Oversee the execution of merchandising, display, and operational priorities across territories.
- Propose improvements to existing sales processes including data tracking, payment methods, and supply chain management.
- Enhance process efficiency with distributors and retailers through effective stakeholder liaison.
- Maintain a regular physical presence in the territory to understand internal and external customer needs.
- Assess and track team capability through ongoing feedback, regular review meetings, and KPI monitoring.
- Conduct core skills assessments and field training for Distributor Representatives (DRs) and Distributor Sales Representatives (DSRs) to ensure strong coaching and selling skills.
Required Qualifications
- University graduate (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- Strong leadership and people management skills with a proven ability to solve problems effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and demonstrate a strong sense of urgency to achieve results.
- Proficiency in MS Office, with frequent use of complex Excel and PowerPoint applications.
- Strong team player with the ability to multitask and maintain work speed.
- Analytical mindset with strong control and monitoring capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 to 4 years of experience in a similar sales leadership capacity.
