This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care within a hospital unit or ward, ensuring smooth communication during shift changes, and supporting both patients and medical staff throughout the care process. The nurse is expected to deliver patient-centered care with professionalism, maintain high standards of safety and hygiene, and collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary team to meet patient needs. The position requires attention to detail in medication administration, vital sign monitoring, and assisting doctors with procedures, while also overseeing junior staff and maintaining proper documentation.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct thorough handover and takeover of patient-related information during shift changes, including introductions, patient files, medication charts, investigation reports, and intake/output charts.
- Provide direct patient care in a calm, courteous, and tactful manner throughout the shift.
- Ensure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards, measuring health outcomes against patient care goals, and recommending necessary adjustments.
- Address patient problems and needs using multidisciplinary team strategies.
- Prepare medication requisitions and administer medications safely and accurately.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following established procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Adhere strictly to infection control policies, medication administration and storage protocols, and controlled substance regulations to protect patients and staff.
- Facilitate doctors’ rounds by assisting with patient assessments, recording instructions, and preparing patients physically and emotionally for procedures.
- Assist doctors during procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment is available and functioning.
- Execute doctors’ orders as prescribed, raising any concerns regarding treatment plans.
- Monitor and maintain adequate stock levels of medical supplies, ensuring proper storage and availability.
- Perform clinical tasks such as checking and recording blood sugar levels, drawing blood, and conducting other laboratory procedures.
- Monitor and record vital signs, with special attention to pre-operative and post-operative patients.
- Perform intravenous (IV) cannulations in accordance with clinical policies and procedures.
- Report any incidents involving patients, staff, or visitors promptly and accurately.
- Supervise Nurse Aides, Student Nurses, and other support staff to ensure effective teamwork and patient care delivery.

Required Qualifications

- Valid nursing license and relevant clinical certifications.
- Proven experience in patient care within a hospital or clinical setting.
- Strong knowledge of medication administration, infection control, and clinical procedures.
- Ability to perform IV cannulations and other nursing interventions confidently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Competence in documentation and reporting of clinical information and incidents.
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining professionalism and empathy.
