Technical writer

Planful is seeking a Technical Content Writer to join its Content team and lead the creation of content for its AI-first financial performance management platform. This role offers a unique opportunity to build content from the ground up, shaping how users engage with AI-driven planning and analytics. The writer will collaborate closely with Product Managers, UX designers, and Engineers to produce clear, accurate, and user-friendly content that explains AI-native workflows, including conversational interfaces, autonomous agents, and AI-generated insights. The ideal candidate will work at the pace of AI innovation, leveraging AI writing tools as part of their process while maintaining high editorial standards and domain expertise. This position is highly visible and pivotal in defining the voice and clarity of content for an AI-first product.

Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end content development for the AI platform, including in-product AI guidance such as prompts, suggested actions, agent explanations, onboarding flows, release notes, and help documentation.
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers to gain early insight into the roadmap and translate new AI capabilities into clear, user-facing content.
- Partner with UX and Product Design teams to craft UI text, conversational flows, empty states, and error messaging for AI-driven interactions, ensuring consistent tone and terminology.
- Work directly with Engineering to understand AI model behavior, limitations, and system design to produce technically accurate content, including explanations of AI outputs, confidence levels, and human-in-the-loop processes.
- Utilize AI writing tools like Claude as a core part of the content creation workflow to draft, restructure, and scale content while applying rigorous human review for accuracy and tone.
- Develop and maintain a scalable content strategy, including reusable templates and patterns for recurring AI features.
- Produce release content aligned with the monthly Agile release cycle, such as release notes, known issues, and highlights.
- Continuously audit and update existing content to reflect product changes and evolving AI behaviors.
- Help define content guidelines and voice standards specific to AI features, such as how to communicate confidence levels, model limitations, and autonomous actions to users.

Required Qualifications
- 3 to 6 years of experience researching, writing, and editing software application content within an Agile environment.
- Proven experience writing for AI/ML-powered features or products, including conversational UIs, generative AI outputs, or recommendation/agent systems.
- Hands-on experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude or similar large language model-based tools) as part of the content production workflow for drafting, editing, summarizing, or repurposing content at scale.
- Ability to work directly with Engineering teams to understand technical AI system behavior and translate it into accurate documentation.
- Experience collaborating with UX/Product Design on in-product copy and interaction content.
- Familiarity with wiki-based documentation tools such as Confluence or Document360.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Domain expertise in finance, enterprise performance management (EPM), multi-dimensional modeling, or planning software is highly desirable.
- Experience creating API documentation is a plus.
- Familiarity with onboarding tools like Pendo or WalkMe is advantageous.
