UN Women Pakistan Country Office in Islamabad offers an internship opportunity to support its diverse portfolio of programmes aimed at advancing gender equality and empowering women and girls in Pakistan. This internship provides practical exposure to programme implementation within the United Nations system, allowing interns to contribute to research, documentation, coordination, monitoring, communications, and other activities that support UN Women’s priorities. The role is designed to enhance understanding of gender equality initiatives while developing professional skills in a multicultural and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day programme support to assigned teams across various UN Women projects and thematic areas.
- Assist in compiling, organizing, and maintaining programme-related information, records, trackers, presentations, and other documents.
- Conduct desk research and analysis on topics such as gender equality, women’s empowerment, leadership, economic empowerment, ending violence against women, governance, peace, and security.
- Support the preparation of background notes, briefs, talking points, meeting materials, presentations, minutes, and summaries.
- Monitor and document programme activities by collecting and organizing relevant data, outputs, results, and supporting evidence.
- Assist with coordination and follow-up of meetings, consultations, workshops, trainings, events, including preparation of agendas, attendance records, and action points.
- Support the preparation, formatting, and quality review of programme documents and reports in line with UN Women standards.
- Compile inputs from programme teams and partners for periodic reporting, programme updates, donor reporting, and management information.
- Assist in developing communication and visibility materials such as success stories, human-interest stories, and event summaries.
- Maintain electronic programme files ensuring systematic organization and accessibility.
- Facilitate coordination and information exchange with internal teams, implementing partners, and other stakeholders under supervision.
- Undertake other programme-related tasks contributing to the effective implementation of UN Women activities.
Required Qualifications
- University studies in gender studies, international development, public policy, social sciences, political science, economics, public administration, communications, business administration, development studies, international relations, or a related field.
- Candidates must meet one of the following: be enrolled in a graduate programme; be in the final year of a first university degree at minimum Bachelor’s level; have graduated within the last two years; or be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship programme as part of degree requirements.
- Fluency in English is required.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong research, analytical, and information-gathering skills.
- Good written and oral communication abilities.
- Ability to organize information and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks within deadlines.
- Interest in gender equality, women’s rights, development, or related areas.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits

- Interns who do not receive financial support from other sources may be eligible for a stipend from UN Women for the duration of the internship.
