The Verification Officer at Mobilink Microfinance Bank Ltd. (MMBL) plays a crucial role in supporting branch operations to achieve business targets while maintaining prudent credit risk levels. This position involves conducting independent reviews of loan files to ensure accuracy and compliance with credit policies, participating in credit decision-making processes, and maintaining detailed records of loan applications. The Verification Officer is responsible for both pre-approval and post-disbursement verifications, assessing borrower information for completeness and reliability, and ensuring adherence to regulatory and internal guidelines. This role also includes training branch staff to strengthen credit assessment capabilities and fostering a culture of compliance and customer service excellence.

Key Responsibilities

- Support branches in meeting business targets while ensuring credit risk is maintained within policy guidelines.
- Conduct independent desk reviews of loan files for accuracy and completeness, highlighting discrepancies for correction before further processing.
- Participate in branch Credit Committees, providing independent judgment on loan approvals or rejections.
- Maintain management information systems (MIS) for all loan applications received, processed, and rejected, and consolidate reasons for rejection to share with stakeholders.
- Coordinate with branch management to reduce loan rejection rates and implement best practices.
- Perform post-disbursement verifications on a sample basis, consolidating findings for branch management and risk teams to address.
- Conduct pre-approval verifications, either physically or telephonically, to validate borrower information, creditworthiness, reputation, and repayment capacity.
- Verify the existence of borrowers and their businesses through cross-checking home and business addresses in line with credit policies.
- Assess customer knowledge regarding their business and loan purpose, and verify credit history against CIR and prudential regulations.
- Identify and report serious non-compliance issues promptly to line managers.
- Promote a culture of credit compliance aligned with bank policies, frameworks, and regulatory guidelines.
- Foster a strong service mindset focused on customer needs without compromising key controls.
- Ensure adherence to credit policies, procedures, and guidelines, including timely implementation of any updates.
- Obtain and document policy exceptions before approval as required.
- Align work schedules with branch management to manage seasonal business fluctuations effectively.
- Provide functional training and capacity-building sessions to branch staff to enhance credit assessment and monitoring skills.
- Verify credentials of goldsmiths during onboarding and conduct quarterly verifications, including supervising the gold auction process.
- Undertake any additional assignments as directed by the line manager.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree from a reputable institution in Business Administration, Banking & Finance, Agriculture, Economics, or Accounts.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in credit and related fields.
