Video Game Developer

We are seeking a skilled Video Game Developer to join our remote team, working primarily during U.S. business hours. In this role, you will be responsible for building, iterating, and maintaining game projects using both Unity and Godot engines. Collaborating closely with designers and artists, you will transform creative concepts into polished gameplay systems, mechanics, and interactions. You will take full ownership of features from initial prototypes through to final delivery, ensuring high-quality and engaging game experiences.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain games using Unity (C#) and Godot (GDScript or C#), producing clean and maintainable code for stable, shippable builds.
- Work across multiple game projects as required, adapting to different creative and technical needs.
- Translate design concepts and creative direction into functional gameplay mechanics and systems.
- Own features throughout their lifecycle, from prototype to polished implementation.
- Build gameplay interactions, systems, and supporting functionalities that enhance player experience.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve bugs, performance issues, and technical debt.
- Optimize game systems and builds to ensure smooth performance on target platforms.
- Investigate technical challenges and deliver reliable fixes in a timely manner.
- Document game systems, scripts, and architectural decisions clearly to support team understanding and future maintenance.
- Collaborate effectively with designers and artists to ensure technical implementations align with creative goals.
- Communicate progress, technical decisions, and blockers transparently through both synchronous and asynchronous channels.
- Participate actively in focused team discussions and contribute to a collaborative development environment.

Required Qualifications

- Proven professional or portfolio experience developing games using both Unity and Godot engines.
- Strong proficiency in C# programming within Unity.
- Experience with GDScript or C# in Godot.
- Demonstrated ability through shipped games or substantial portfolio projects.
- Solid understanding of game architecture concepts, including state machines, component systems, scene management, and input handling.
- Ability to independently translate design requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Experience with Git version control and collaborative branching workflows.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Clear written communication skills in English, suitable for technical discussions and documentation.

Typical Day

Your daily work will primarily involve hands-on game development across one or more projects. You may be tasked with building new mechanics in Godot, integrating them into existing systems, documenting your approach, or switching to Unity projects to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues. Collaboration with designers and artists will occur through written updates and focused meetings, but the main focus will remain on active development.
