A.    Responsibilities

The Junior Communication Advisor in close consultation with the superior is responsible for:

  •   Assisting the programme management with strategic orientation of communication in the country, in presenting a consistent corporate image of the GIZ Textile Cluster and communicating GIZ corporate policy and strategy to staff in the Textile Cluster
  •   Assisting with all communication-related tasks for the GIZ Textile Cluster such as providing support in coordination with the Country Office and HQ
  •   Working closely with the team to identify activities and results of the GIZ Textile Cluster in Pakistan that deserve documentation and publication especially regarding the economic viability of activities implemented in the private sector, in close cooperation with the M&E Advisor
  •   Supporting the Textile Cluster projects and partners, in particular communication experts, on their queries, and managing the exchange of information between the Cluster projects and the GIZ office
  •   Assisting with creating and assuring the quality of pools of appraisers, service providers (text, printers, graphic designers, copyeditors, etc.) and frequently communicating with service providers to follow up on assignments
  •   Supporting and coordinating on tasks including planning quantity and material quality for assignments 

The Junior Communication Advisor in close consultation with the superior performs the following tasks: 

B.    Tasks 

1.     Media

  •   Provides support regarding media activities of the Textile Cluster projects
  •   Assists in the development of content for press releases and social media contributions, under close supervision of the Country Office’s PR & Communications Advisor
  •   Compiles information materials (basic material and for specific occasions) for the Textile Cluster team
  •   Supports in monitoring of media (documentation and analysis of media reports on GIZ) 

2.     PR & Communications

  •   Supports in the development suitable communication instruments for PR (e.g. brochures, fact sheets, advertising material, info graphics, PowerPoint presentations on the Textile Cluster based on the corporate presentation, newsletters, information sheets)
  •   Assists in the coordination of processes and in the production of publications and materials in accordance with GIZ standards (corporate design, standards for content)
  •   Provides support to team in organizing events
  •   Assists in arrangements for foreign delegations and VIP visits
  •   Provides editorial support to the GIZ Textile Cluster projects’ websites, coordinates and advises on the online presentations of projects and programmes 

3.     Internal Communications within the country

  •   Assists Textile Cluster project teams in developing appropriate communication instruments (e.g. emails, internal newsletters, internal events)
  •   Supports local staff on the regulations and contacts for PR in the interests of a uniform GIZ image 

4.     Capacity Development for partners

  •   Assists in implementing capacity development measures of the project partner institutions regarding communication and PR, that is trainings, workshops, etc.
  •   Supports in the delivery of advisory services to the Textile Cluster project partners in the development of communication strategies, definition of target groups, slogans and messages, selection of appropriate communication instruments, etc.
  •   Supports in the delivery of advisory services to the Textile Cluster project partners to implement activities in the area of communication and PR, e.g. definition of campaigns, organisation and management of events in close cooperation with the project team 

5.     Other duties/additional tasks

  •   Performs other duties and tasks at the request of management 

C.    Required qualifications, competences and experience 


  •   University degree in a relevant field 

Professional experience

  •   One (1) year of professional experience in the field of communication (media and PR work, journalism, internal communication) or previous experience in development cooperation is an asset 

Other knowledge, additional competences

  •   Ability to express oneself well both verbally and in writing; polished, target-group oriented style;
  •   Good knowledge of graphics applications
  •   Experience in project and/or event management
  •   Editorial experience, experience in writing articles and press releases (evidenced e.g. by work samples)
  •   Very good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
  •   Very good knowledge of the English and Urdu language
  •   Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
