As an Intern, I rotated on the medical floor, critical care unit, emergency department and outpatient clinics. I was responsible for performing a complete history and physical exam on every patient admitted to an inpatient service, writing orders and daily progress notes. I was also responsible for the management of the daily care of patients on inpatient medicine, critical care, subspecialty and ambulatory rotations which included the writing of all orders. I presented cases at resident report, medical grand rounds and department conferences as assigned. I learned and practiced simple procedures like IV cannulation, arterial and venous sampling, nasogastric intubation, peritoneal/pleural tap, lumbar puncture and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
As a student observer in Cardiothoracic Surgery Department, I observed multiple open heart surgeries including Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting and other procedures. I attended senimars and symposiums about different clinical problems and patient care, and also attended training courses to broaden my knowledge.
