Shabana Siyal has the master degree in agriculture from Sindh Agriculture University TandoJam. She has 13 years working
experience in project implementation along with livelihood activities and experience of practical agriculture farming
and natural resources management. She is highly responsible, innovative and able to develop new ideas. Possess
excellent management skills, good team player and strongly committed to assigned tasks. She has worked with
International Nongovernmental organizations (INGOs), Local nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and Government
organizations.
Technical Focus
Facilitate the development of agri-business plans for select value chains of commodities supported by the project, through support for community organizations, producer marketing groups and other types of MSMEs established.
Ensure that Farmer Business Climate School (FCBS) are supported with appropriate technical information to maximize the chance to establish commercial opportunities for their products, horticultural or livestock-related.
Tasks and responsibilities
Lead the work of the staff in the districts in terms of attendance, work planning, implementation, logistics HR and other management related tasks.
Assist the Project Coordinator to liaise with district government officials to ensure smooth implementation of the project.
Lead the team of district Agri-business Value Chain Facilitators in collecting and preparing background information on value chains, agribusiness and market development issues; provide appropriate field guidance and local knowledge support to project coordinator and other consultants.
Liaison in between districts teams and the subject matter experts and specialist staff on the project, including those supplying expertise on livestock, horticulture, market development, climate smart technologies and gender, as well as acting as implementation partner
Prepare district work plans on economic viable value chains and agribusiness in collaboration with the Project Coordinator and other staff, and supervise the facilitation and implementation of activities at field and value chain level.
Work closely with the project groups established and supported including community organizations, producer marketing groups to produce value chain and agri business plans that are likely to result into positive income growth.
In collaboration with district staff and other relevant partners undertake detailed value chain, market analyses (including SWOT, Constraints, Needs and Gap analysis)
Day to day operational and financial activities and managing the FAO district team and Office
Prepare and submit monthly work plan and progress reports;
Perform any other associated duties as required by the Project Coordinator
Responsible for supervision GCF project activities at designated district level. Coordination with district key stakeholders including but not limited government extension departments, I/NGOs, private sector companies, academia, research institutions and women and men farmer organizations interested in working with the project:
Facilitate target UCs and Villages selection process under guidance of national and provincial teams.
Supervise trainings with support of sector specialist and facilitate field for establishment of Climate Business Field School (CBFS), Farmer Field Schools for Women (FFS-W), and Climate Resilient Agriculture (CRA) sites;
Responsible for management of district office and allocated assets; in addition supervise project management matters including work plan, procurement plan, logistic, admin etc.
Facilitate in organising capacity building events/ trainings on CBFS, selected CRA practices, facilitation skills, farmer training curricula, OFWM, use of ICT, monitoring methods, and others.
Conduct local level ToT for extension officers, staff and/or employees from partner organisations (entities) on CRA and On Farm Water Management (OFWM). Apart from this facilitate organising season long Training of Farmer Facilitators (ToFF)
Provide and seek technical backstopping from sectoral specialist team to run the CBFS/FFS-W/CRA practices and facilitate ongoing related activities in the selected districts;
Position holder will work closely with provincial office for collection and compilation of all the information related with CBFS/FFS-W/CRA, economic analysis, Cost Benefit Analysis related data from respective district;
Responsible for mobilization, formation and facilitation of CBFS/FFS-W/CRA in the target villages with the support FFS team and partners organizations (if any);
Conduct field visits of the project area and provide guidance and recommendation in consultation with sectoral specialist for appropriate crops, vegetables and livestock area specific interventions for establishment of CBFS/FFS-W/CRA.
Responsible for maintaining meaningful working relation with provincial project team and government agriculture department for implementation of CBFS/FFS-W/CRA;
Liaison and coordination with district administration, I/NGOs, private sector companies, academia, research institutions and women and men farmer organizations;
Assist Sectoral Specialist and share information with Project Coordinator in the day-to-day monitoring of CBFS/FFS-W/CRA. interventions and compile monthly monitoring sheets (online/offline);
Ensure timely submission of CBFS/FFS-W/CRA monthly work plan and progress reports (monthly, quarterly, and final) to supervisor;
Perform any other associated task as required.
• Will assist the Provincial Program Coordinator - Sindh / Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) in implementing project activities.
• Will supervise the activities of Community Organizers.
• Conduct value chain analysis to identify constraints and opportunities in production, post-harvest and marketing of banana.
• Plan and implement product specific value enhancement plans for banana by way of improvements in technologies and processes employed for production, postharvest handing, processing/ripening, packing, logistic (supply chain management and cool chain management) and marketing;
• Design and implement training programs from farm to the processing plant level to optimize end product quality and value for the consumers.
• Assist in designing of post-harvest handling systems to minimize produce wastage and ensure high quality, food safety, and higher returns to the farmers and other value chain partners.
• Support the Project team in organizing trainings, meetings, workshops, field days, expositions and other project related events.
• Promote (small) farmer-market linkages to facilitate efficient and profitable marketing of produce and access to knowledge, inputs, technology and credit.
• Assist project’s team in disbursement of grants to the beneficiaries of banana value chains in the project districts.
• Develop technical and progress reports.
• Mobilizing and organizing farmers to implement farmer field schools for the testing, validation replication and upscaling of new and improved climate-smart agriculture technologies and practices and distribution of conservation agriculture packages (i.e. tools and inputs) to beneficiary farmers groups
• Establishing close collaboration with government extension workers and officials at the municipal level, including the national project counterparts of the Department of Agriculture and other related government entities at district and sub-district levels.
• Assist international and other project staff (i.e. short and long-term national consultants required by FAO) in the mobilization and implementation of farmer field schools (FFSs) for the testing, validation, replication and upscaling of new and improved conservation agriculture technologies and practices
• Responsibility for the implementation, control, and monitoring of all FFS assigned in the target communities.
• Assistance with the Agricultural/Farmer Field School Specialist in conducting training, seminars, and workshop with the FFS participants
• Responsibility for identifying farmers’ needs in the adoption of CSA practices and in providing feedback to the Team Leaders on these needs for the timely delivery of supports.
• Responsible for the distribution of conservation agriculture packages (i.e. tools and inputs) to beneficiary farmers groups in the project’s target areas.
