The Universal Hope Initiative (UHI) partners with organizations who are working to empower their communities by empowering women. UHI believes women are the strength of a community. If women in a community suffer systematic abuse and inequality, the whole community suffers. If women in a community are empowered to support themselves and their families (both financially and emotionally), the whole community benefits. UHI only partners with organizations founded and operated by individuals from the community they serve. We make long-term commitments to our partner organizations helping them with fundraising and outreach. Our goal is for these organizations to become self-sustaining: not dependent on outside help to accomplish their mission. UHI is managed and operated by volunteers. We have no employees. We have no office space. We have very little administrative costs, so close to 100% of your donation goes directly to our partners and projects. We strive to create a bond between our donors and our projects: allowing donors to see and feel the change they are helping to create. We support women's enrollment at the Bridge, a vocational training school in Johnsonville, Liberia. The Bridge teaches vocational and literacy skills to the most marginalized students in Liberia: students with very little formal education. The Bridge provides emotional support to its students, a safe place for them to bring their children while they work or attend class, and helps them find meaningful employment after graduation. To increase women's enrollment at the Bridge we: 1. built and fully fund a childcare center and elementary school next to the vocational school building, 2. provide a school lunch program, and 3. fund weekly nurse visits. In the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Maria, we are exploring ways to increase our impact in western Puerto Rico.
