Empirical Research - Students’ Perceptions of Learning Outcomes

Blended learning is a fairly new concept in Pakistan and it is gaining prominence recently. An amalgamation of technology and traditional learning environment is known as blended learning; on the other hand face-to-face learning is the traditional learning environment. This study measures the impact of blended learning and face to face learning on students’ perceptions of learning outcomes. Students’ perception of learning outcome is measured in terms of course grades, skills, and learning styles. Additionally, the moderating role of gender on the relationship between blended learning and students’ perceptions of learning outcome and face to face learning and students’ perceptions of learning outcome was also measured- its moderating role wasn’t evident. The context of the study is undergraduate university students of management and humanities schools in four universities of Lahore. Data was collected through survey questionnaire. Questionnaire items were adapted from well-established scales. Total 216 responses from undergraduate students were received from which 22 filled questionnaires were rejected due to incomplete/missing responses. Results show that blended learning and F2F learning have a positive impact on student’s perception of learning outcomes in terms of skills and learning styles. However, the student’s perception regarding grades is unaffected by the learning environments in our research. The limited exposure of blended learning in Lahore and resource constraints, restrained us to a few number of universities where the research could have been conducted. This research creates a platform for other researchers to explore further dimensions of blended learning and study other moderators/mediator and independent variables in the Pakistan context.
