- 3+ years experience as Regional Head of Reassurance at Oxford University Press Pakistan heading the following departments:
- 5+ years experience as Regional Internal Control Manager (Heading the Internal Controls and Internal Audit function, Reporting to GCC CFO and Group Internal Controls Director) in Lafarge Emirates Cement, UAE and Lafarge Ready Mix Business across GCC in Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and UAE.
- 9+ years of audit / internal audit / compliance / consultation / advisory and teaching experience predominantly in Pakistan and various gulf countries (4 years in Dubai) (Kuwait, Bahrain, Lebanon, Qatar and UAE) in nearly every discipline of business (large manufacturing business specialties).
Education:
CA Finalist (Pakistan), Masters Degree in Economics, Certified Financial Consultant (CFC, Canada), Certified Public Accountant (CPA, UK), and Bachelors Degree in Commerce.
Achievements:
- Implemented the Oxford University Press’s (OUP) Group Corporate Compliance Program in Pakistan in line with the UK Bribery Act 2010. Established the Corporate Governance Structure, setup the Compliance Framework, Risk Assessments, Monitoring and Review Program, reporting and KPIs for OUP Pakistan in mere one year of my joining the OUP. (2019-20)
- Trained single handedly more than 800 employees in OUP Pakistan during 2019-20 and 750 employees in year 2014- 15 across GCC Countries on Group Compliance Program, including implementation of Code of Conduct and Ethical Policies, local laws and competition requirements and related Compliance aspects. (2019-20 & 2014-15)
- Established and led the Internal controls function in UAE Cement BU in 2011 and in GCC Ready Mix BUs (UAE, Oman, Kuwait and Qatar) in 2014 and implemented key controls in each business against top identified risks, resulting in net savings of more than AED 800K in each business ( USD 166K) in one year through controls improvement only.
- Led the project of re-engineering of Procure to Pay Process, Financial Closing and Reporting Process, and HR processes and registered astounding improvements in efficiency and effectiveness of these processes. In monetary terms it accumulates more than AED 1M (USD 350K) savings in 2 years.
- Led the Health and Safety Improvement Project with a team of 6 people and received an award for outstanding contributions in the assigned area of H&S.
- Trained alone more than 750 employees in year 2014-15 across GCC Countries on Group Code of Conduct, local laws and competition requirements and Compliance aspects.

SCOPE OF WORK:
Heading the Internal Controls Function for the GCC Cluster:
- UAE - 3 Business Units (Cement, Industrial Ecology and Ready Mix BUs)
- Oman - 2 Business Units (Ready Mix BU with 12 Plants across Oman)
- Qatar - 3 Business Units (Ready Mix BU with 18 plants, Aggregates BU with 1 quarry)
- Kuwait - 1 Business Unit (Ready Mix BU with 4 Plants)
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Identifying the risks, suggesting and implementing controls, policies and procedures according to the priorities and risk classification
- Coordinating with the business process owners in all functions and acting as a link between all departments to work towards better controls framework, improving work efficiency and become more effective
- Assess the status of controls implementation, identifying gaps and taking remedial measures
- Leading the Internal audits and special assignments
- Ensuring compliance of Group Policies and Control Procedures
- Liaise with external auditors and other consultants
- Providing necessary training to the Business Process Owners and employees concerning the controls implemented and efficiency guidelines
- Foreign reporting and monthly financial review and reporting
- Analysis of financial information, plant performance related measures, KPIs, forecast, budgets and actual results
- Hands on work experience on Oracle and HFM Reporting, being part of any system changes and implementation
Planning of the engagements, preparing audit budgets, finalizing initial agreements with clients.
Identifying the potential skill specialties required to work on clients, deciding the staffing and budgeted time to complete the auditing and assurance assignments.
Carrying our financial and operational risk assessments based on the Global Audit Methodology of the Ernst & Young.
Checking Compliance to the applicable laws and regulations, policies and procedures of the client and to the relevant pronouncements of the accounting, auditing, legal and professional bodies.
Assisting the clients in the reporting of financial and accounting information to their foreign group companies.
Preparation of the Internal Control Memorandums to identify significant weaknesses in the client’s internal control system and recommending improvements therein.
Assisting in providing financial and other advisory services to various clients.
Providing audit and business advice to clients.
Establishing and maintaining strong business relationships with clients.
Planning of the audit, leading the execution of the audit as per the audit approach, preparation of the financial statements, reviewing the work of team members and liaising with the clients and audit partners and tax departments.
