Proper Placement of Distribution Generation in Transmission Lines

The usage of DG in power distribution system leads chances of short circuit current in these networks. Due to this reason, we can say that installation of new DG source in the existing electrical power distribution system is risky because it is harmful to the power distribution system, main power source and for the DG itself, it can affect the protection scheme of the existing power distribution system. As installation of DG source causes increase in short circuit capacity of the power distribution network, due to which fault level of the system is changed, so the existing protection scheme of the power distribution network becomes useless. In this research project, we have analyzed radial distribution feeder, consisting of four buses, which is supplying power at different load sections. We have performed the calculations for short circuit current capacity without and with the presence of DG in the existing power distribution system at the different sections of the radial feeder. We have also verified these result in the simulation. Then we applied protection scheme using coordination of inverse time overcurrent relays. If a fault occurs at any of the zones it disconnects the faulty zone from the system, if there is fault still in the system it will disconnect the 2nd relay and finally, all relays will be tripped and the whole network is disconnected. In this scheme, there is the disadvantage of disconnection in the power distribution network. Then we performed the task of mitigation of short circuit current by using the current limiting reactor, without and with the presence of the Distribution Generator, this protection scheme current limiting reactor limits the fault current without disconnecting the distribution network.With the help of these protection schemes, we can get an advantage of Interconnection of DG in Power distribution network, to get the required power and mitigate the energy shortage in a very safe way.
