This role involves comprehensive nursing responsibilities within a hospital ward or unit, focusing on providing high-quality patient care throughout assigned shifts. The nurse will manage the handover and takeover process, ensuring seamless communication of patient information such as medical files, medication charts, investigation reports, and intake/output records. The position requires maintaining a calm, courteous, and professional demeanor while delivering direct patient care and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to address patient needs effectively.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage the handover and takeover of patient-related information during shift changes, including introductions, patient files, medication charts, investigation reports, and intake/output charts.
- Provide direct patient care consistently throughout the shift, maintaining professionalism and empathy.
- Ensure quality care by adhering to therapeutic standards, monitoring health outcomes against patient care goals, and recommending adjustments as necessary.
- Resolve patient problems and needs through collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Prepare medication requisitions and administer medications safely and accurately.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following established procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Adhere strictly to infection-control policies, medication administration and storage protocols, and controlled substance regulations to protect patients and staff.
- Facilitate doctors’ rounds by assisting with patient assessments, recording instructions, and preparing patients physically and emotionally for procedures.
- Assist doctors during procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment is available and patients are adequately prepared.
- Execute doctors’ orders as prescribed, raising any concerns regarding treatment plans promptly.
- Monitor and manage unit/ward medical supplies to ensure they are well-stocked, properly stored, and readily accessible.
- Perform clinical tasks such as checking and recording blood sugar levels, drawing blood, and conducting other laboratory procedures.
- Monitor and record vital signs, with particular attention to pre-operative and post-operative patients.
- Perform intravenous (IV) cannulations in accordance with clinical policies and procedures.
- Report any incidents involving patients, staff, or visitors promptly and accurately.
- Supervise Nurse Aides, Student Nurses, and other support staff to ensure quality care delivery.

Required Qualifications

- Registered Nurse with a valid nursing license.
- Proven experience in a clinical nursing role within a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of patient care standards, medication administration, infection control, and clinical procedures.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and communicate clearly with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Competence in performing clinical procedures such as IV cannulation, blood draws, and vital sign monitoring.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and compliant work environment.
- Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
