I have extensive experience in the communications and marketing disciple with leading multi nationals and development organizations including Ericsson, Lafarge, British Council and WaterAid, where I worked in the capacity of Head of Communications. Communications is my passion and my aim is to make a difference to the lives of human beings with my skill set acquired over the years. Based on my past experiences and passion to make a difference, World Union for Small and Medium enterprises (WUSME) has nominated me as their Ambassador to Pakistan.
I was previously heading the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI) in the capacity of Secretary General. I was the first female Secretary General from the region elected unanimously by eight countries and was also the first woman in the senior most position at SAARC CCI. My responsibilities as the Head of Secretariat included heading the Regional Chamber initiatives for regional socio economic cooperation between all 8 SAARC member countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka along with operations of the secretariat, headquartered in Islamabad. This involved extensive networking with the private sector, Government officials, media, entrepreneurs, and youth of the 8 SAARC countries, with whom I have developed working linkages over the years. Communications at country level and across 8 SAARC countries was integral to the Chamber initiatives and hence the secretariat was strengthened to cater to the communications needs of all stakeholders. We held several stakeholder meetings and events, at the South Asian regional level for young entrepreneurs, women entrepreneurs, private sector of South Asia and Media trainings for regional print and electronic media representatives in collaboration with the relevant authorities, national apex business bodies and donors such as USAID/SARI, German donors including GIZ and FNF, and others advocating the regional cooperation agenda. This included leading delegations to SAARC member states and holding advocacy meetings and tours in the region. Extensive media engagement was carried out at events, as it was integral for the chamber regional economic integration advocacy goals.
I have had the privilege to be the first female Secretary General of SAARC CCI in its history and the first female member of the Executive Management Committees at Lafarge, Ericsson and Teradata. Working in leadership positions gave me the opportunity to build valuable linkages across South Asia and beyond, as well as build strong networks with the private sector, development organizations, Government departments and bodies, press and media, academia and youth of Pakistan and South Asia.
I have recently completed my consulting role with WaterAid Pakistan in the capacity of communications consultant in the Policy and Advocacy team. My role included managing all communications domains including Internal comms, External comms, Press and Media relations including managing social media channels, brand management and partner communications. The role also involved close collaboration with Government bodies such as PCRWR and National and Provincial Assemblies of Pakistan to advocate for WASH as a human right.
Utilizing my communications skillset, I voluntarily contribute my hours to Sunbeams Schools system on streamlining an Adult Learning Program whereby we are setting up skill-based learning centers across Pakistan to empower youth and women for better employability and empowerment. These centers are being prepared for endorsement by the Government of Pakistan.
Communications is my passion and I would like to bring my experience gained over the years to impact lives and address socio economic challenges for the prosperity of people. I bring corporate sector communications experience and development sector communications understanding to the table.
I am a leader, good team player, possess exemplary communications skills and an eye for detail with the ability to learn quickly.
I look forward to a mutually beneficial relationship with your prestigious organization.
