Socio and Economic Effects of Begging

This is a study on the Socio and Economic effects of begging, particularly in Islamabad. The study was centered on the beggars of Islamabad, from different age groups, religions, ethnic backgrounds etc. The purpose of the study is to gather firsthand information from the beggars and bring it forward with efficient analysis to be used and understood by the public for understanding the reasons and consequences of begging in our society. The basic design of the study was to conduct interviews with beggars from different parts of the city and to get useful information from them to determine the reasons and consequences of begging. Close attention was paid while designing the questions and conducting the interviews, also to include people from all backgrounds, ages, genders, etc. to not entertain any bias. Major findings of the study include that begging has become a profession in our society. Moreover, a beggar might be able to earn more than a hardworking man at (Pakistan’s) current minimum wage. To control this efficient lawmaking must be done and implemented by government.
