PROGRAM BACKGROUND:

Pakistan Reading Project (PRP) is five years USAID funded project starting June 2013 with the objective to support the provincial and regional departments of education (DoE) throughout Pakistan to improve reading skills of at least 1.3 million children in grade one and two. The goal will be supported by three interrelated components including improved classroom learning environment for reading, improve policies and systems for reading and community based support for reading in Pakistan. The anticipated results include 23,800 teachers in 23,800 public schools with improved skills in teaching reading,3,649 scholarships for ADE and B.Ed (Hons) students, mobile bus libraries reaching out to 300 communities

The illustrator will be responsible to create and design sketches/illustrations/art work for the material developed by the project. The material may include work book for children, short stories for younger children, training material for teachers etc

Requirements:

· Bachelor of Fine Arts/ Master in ART or equivalent degree in Illustration required.

· Minimum 3 years working experience in developing illustrations for the younger children

Skills required:

The potential candidate must have the skills to;

· Generate & develop ideas for sketching to the given content & context.

· Understand the given instruction to illustrate an image, and picture.

· Create images and designs by using the traditional hand skills of drawing and painting, alongside other techniques, to meet design briefs.

· Draw and create sketches, artwork or illustrations according to the relevant content & context of the story or book.

· Design models, backgrounds, settings, characters, objects and the given environment.

· Work in pressure to meet deadlines

The USAID-funded Pakistan Reading Project, implemented by the International Rescue Committee and its partners (Creative Associates International, World Learning, and Institute of Rural Management), is a seven-year project (2013-2020) with the objective to support the provincial and regional departments of education throughout Pakistan to improve reading skills of 1.3 million children in grades one and two. The project will achieve this goal through three distinct but interrelated components that will work in synergy to affect the quality of early grade education: Improved classroom learning environment for reading, Improved policies and systems for reading, and Improved community based support for reading in Pakistan.
