The USAID Training for Pakistan Project is implementing the “Energy Sector Internship Program”. The six-month paid Internship Program with 150 interns is planned to start in May 2015 in collaboration with energy sector entities across the country. PKR 15,000 per month will be paid to the interns.

The objective of the Internship Program is to increase hands-on/on-the-job experience of recent graduates and promoting employment of women into the work place. The intended result of the program will be the inclusion and retention of better skilled and trained graduates, particularly females, as employees in the energy sector.

Preference will be given to the following majors:
Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Chemical, Civil, Industrial and Manufacturing, Petroleum and Gas)
Geophysics
Geology

Also accepting limited placements for:
Business Management in Human Resources, Administration/Finance
Economics
Environment/HESQ

Eligibility Criteria:

The applications are invited from fresh graduates who have completed 16 years of education. At least 50% positions are allocated for female candidates.

Only the recent graduates who have completed 16 years of education and having degree of Electrical and Electronics Engineering can apply for this Internship Program. Interns will be recruited for placements in various energy sector organizations/entities in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Guddu, Jamshoro, Muzaffargarh, Attock, Mianwali, Mirpur and Haripur.

Applicants from remote areas and low-income households will be given preference, if all other criteria are met.

Participants with disabilities, who meet the stated criteria, are encouraged to apply.

Females are highly encouraged to apply for this Internship Program.

Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted for testing and further processing.

Desired Profile

Interns should demonstrate willingness and ability to learn, gain experience and work for the duration of the program.

Interns will be required to complete all tasks, presentations, monitoring and evaluations exercises, pre- and post-program activities and maintain a strict attendance record.

The tasks/responsibilities of Interns may include, but not restricted to, the following assignments.


For Electrical Engineering:

  • Procedures and activities related to the field.
  • Operation of Electrical equipment and Power Plant.
  • Power Generation (Turbines, Generators) and Distribution.
  • Control Systems: PLC, SLC, DCC, SCADA, F&G Systems.
  • Instrumentation: Transmitters, Control valves, Sensors, metering equipment.
  • Communication Systems: PABX, UHF, VHF, Satellite Links, LAN
  • To understand the operation and maintenance of power generation, electrical distribution and HVAC system.
  • Preparation and follow up for preventive and shutdown Maintenance schedule for power generators, HVAC system and Elevator.
  • Preparation of Technical Specification for rising of indents for spares and Electrical equipment.
  • Operation and maintenance of turbo-compressors control systems (PLC), Generators, Air compressors.
  • Operation and Maintenance of Hydel Power Plants.

Assist CDM section in:

  • Grid Code and Distribution Code review.
  • Analyzing impact of distributed generation on to the distribution grid.
  • Standardization of equipment, methods and processes for distributed generation.
  • Capacity building and knowledge sharing with the DISCOs and other stakeholders.

Assist wind section in:

  • Locating appropriate locations for new wind power projects at suitable locations with relation to grid availability.
  • Assessing impact of larger quantity of wind power onto the national grid and ways to address those.


For Electronics Engineering:

  • I&C Maintenance procedures and activities.
  • Operation instruments and Power Plant.
  • Power Generation (Turbines, Generators) and Distribution
  • Control Systems: PLC, SLC, DCC, SCADA, F&G Systems
  • Instrumentation: Transmitters, Control valves, Sensors, metering equipment
  • Communication Systems: PABX, UHF, VHF, Satellite Links, LAN
  • Operation and Maintenance of Hydel Power Plants
Tasks assigned by the supervisors.

The interns must have the ability to communicate in English in addition to Urdu and local language.

The interns should be efficient team players, effectively contribute toward the organizational mandate and successfully complete the assigned tasks.

The interns should be well versed in computer/IT skills.
