As a Horticultural Supervisor, your main responsibility is to plan and oversee the annual, seasonal, and daily work of the horticultural staff. This includes routinely inspecting District landscapes, flower sites, and signage to ensure effective planning and supervision. You will also need to administrate the Flower Island Program and collaborate with business owners involved in the program.
Another crucial aspect of your role is supervising the design of flower sites, procuring plant material, and overseeing the planting and maintenance of these sites. You will also work with Park Planner(s) on landscape design in the parks and around facilities, overseeing the procurement, installation, and maintenance of the required landscape plants, structures, and materials.
Additionally, you will work with Park Planner(s) on Park sign design and priorities, supervising sign construction and maintenance. You will also be responsible for maintaining an inventory of sign locations and maintenance records.
As a Horticultural Supervisor, you will submit annual operational and capital budget requests, prepare estimates of material, labor, and equipment needs, and maintain reports and records on work needed and completed. You will also observe workers to detect inefficient or unsafe work procedures and identify problems, initiating corrective action as necessary.
In this role, you will need to requisition or purchase supplies such as insecticides, machine parts or lubricants, and tools. You will estimate labor requirements for jobs and plan work schedules accordingly. Finally, you will calculate or monitor budgets for maintenance or development of collections, grounds, or infrastructure.gly.
