Medication Management: Overseeing the procurement, storage, and distribution of pharmaceuticals, ensuring adherence to international standards, donor procurement guidelines and local regulations.
Clinical Support: Collaborates with other health care professionals to plan, monitor, review, and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of drugs and drug regimens, providing advice on drug applications and characteristics
Capacity Building: Conducting training sessions for pharmacy and other healthcare staff on pharmaceutical best practices, good storage and distribution practices, proper medication administration etc
Collaboration: Working closely with other healthcare professionals, donor NGOs, and government bodies to enhance the overall healthcare infrastructure and delivery.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Establishing systems for monitoring medication usage, ensuring proper documentation, and conducting regular assessments to measure the impact of pharmaceutical interventions.
Quality Assurance: Implementing quality control measures to guarantee the safety, efficacy, and proper storage of pharmaceuticals in line with international standards.
Emergency Response: Participating in emergency response efforts, including the provision of essential pharmaceutical services during health crises and disasters. Participating in emergency procurement of medicine, medical supplies and medical equipment.
Reporting: Compiling accurate and timely reports on pharmaceutical activities, expenditures, and outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensuring adherence to the donor guidelines including the Donors, local regulations, licensing requirements, and ethical standards in pharmaceutical practices.
- Work with team to prepare procurement plans for pharmaceuticals, medical supplies and consumables and medical equipment based on current inventory, consumption and need assessments.
- Ensure proper receiving of all medical supplies and equipment in the main warehouses
- Ensure preparation and maintenance of the records for the received items (Bin cards, stock cards and ledger).
- Ensure availability of all the essential medicines and medical supplies at all health facilities all the time
- Conduct regular support supervision visits to health facilities for implementation and arrangement of pharmacies as per protocols
- Informing line managers on status of medical stock (shortfalls, over-stocking, expiry dates), in close coordination with the logistics department, in order to permanently ensure security stock levels and ensure efficient management of stock
- Ensure rational consumption of medicines and supplies at supported health facilities.
- Ensuring the smooth running of supply chain operation
- Ensure quality control of medicine and medical equipment in the WH and health facilities
- Supervising, with the HR department, the associated processes of staff shifts, recruitment, training, performance evaluation, development and internal/external communication of the pharmaceutical team in order to ensure the required knowledge and to improve their dispensing capabilities
- Implementation of WHO Waste management protocols for disposal of expired drugs where and when needed.
