Job Overview/Summary:

Under the guidance of the Director Communications & Outreach, the Media Officer is responsible for the development, planning, coordination, implementation and monitoring of media strategies at the national level to support the USAID-funded Pakistan Reading Project.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Implementing media strategy according to PRP communications strategy
  • Researching, writing and distributing press releases to targeted media
  • Organizing and coordinating press conferences, media visits and media trainings
  • Pitching interviews, stories, articles to international and national media in line with PRP priorities
  • Preparing questions and answers, talking points, articles, and key messages
  • Ensuring maximum coverage of each public event in print and electronic media, and radio
  • Preparing comprehensive media monitoring reports of PRP events/activities
  • Devising and coordinating photo opportunities
  • Drafting on social media content for Twitter and Facebook
  • Assist in information sessions, project seminars and events as and when required

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or a related field – or relevant experience.

Work Experience

  • Public relations, media or communications experience.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to work independently, ability to take initiatives, and make decisions
  • Capacity to be proactive in the management of media relations
  • Experience of handling events will be preferred
  • Photography skills will be an added advantage

Language Skills: 

  • Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Urdu and/or other languages local to Pakistan is highly preferred.

The USAID-funded Pakistan Reading Project, implemented by the International Rescue Committee and its partners (Creative Associates International, World Learning, and Institute of Rural Management), is a seven-year project (2013-2020) with the objective to support the provincial and regional departments of education throughout Pakistan to improve reading skills of 1.3 million children in grades one and two. The project will achieve this goal through three distinct but interrelated components that will work in synergy to affect the quality of early grade education: Improved classroom learning environment for reading, Improved policies and systems for reading, and Improved community based support for reading in Pakistan.
