The Contract & Commercial Officer is responsible for managing contracts and commercial agreements within the supply chain function of the organization. This role involves negotiating contracts, reviewing terms and conditions, and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. The officer will work closely with procurement, legal, and finance teams to optimize supplier relationships and achieve cost savings while mitigating risks.

 Key Responsibilities:

Contract Management:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with suppliers, vendors, and service providers.
  • Ensure contracts are aligned with organizational objectives, legal requirements, and industry standards.
  • Maintain a contract repository and track key milestones, deliverables, and obligations.
  • Identify opportunities for contract optimization and cost savings.

Commercial Management:

  • Develop commercial strategies to optimize supplier relationships and drive value for the organization.
  • Analyze market trends, supplier performance, and pricing to inform commercial decisions.
  • Negotiate favorable terms and conditions to minimize risk and maximize value.
  • Monitor supplier performance and resolve commercial disputes as needed.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and internal policies and procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement risk mitigation strategies within contracts.
  • Stay updated on relevant laws and regulations impacting contracts and commercial agreements.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including procurement, legal, finance, and operations teams.
  • Communicate effectively with external stakeholders, including suppliers, vendors, and partners.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to drive successful contract outcomes.

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to streamline contract management processes and improve efficiency.
  • Implement best practices and standard operating procedures for contract and commercial management.
  • Utilize technology and tools to enhance contract lifecycle management and reporting.

 Skills

  • Demand Planning and Inventory Management skills
  • Ability to effectively manage contracts and stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other relevant software
  • Knowledge of supply chain management processes
  • Strong understanding of legal and commercial principles, including contract law, risk management, and compliance.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain management, finance, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CSCP, CIPS) is a plus.

Experience:

  • 2-4 years proven experience in contract management, commercial negotiations, or procurement roles, preferably within the supply chain or logistics industry.
