Bottomcode is seeking a talented and creative 3D Environment Artist / Modeler to join our team and contribute to the development of immersive environments for our Unity-based mobile games. The ideal candidate will be skilled in creating and refining game-ready assets, from initial modeling and texturing to final scene assembly within Unity. A strong focus on balancing high visual quality with optimal mobile performance is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Create diverse game-ready environments including buildings, roads, terrain, props, and other assets that align with the game’s artistic direction.
- Develop low-poly, stylized models that maintain consistency with the visual style of each project.
- Perform UV unwrapping, texturing, material creation, and maintain clean, organized asset files.
- Assemble and dress scenes in Unity, managing lighting, prefab creation, and precise asset placement.
- Enhance existing environments and adapt asset packs to ensure a cohesive visual experience across the game.
- Optimize polygon counts, textures, materials, and levels of detail (LODs) specifically for mobile platforms.
- Collaborate closely with Unity developers to ensure environments support gameplay mechanics and meet performance targets.
Required Qualifications
- 2 to 4 years of professional experience in 3D game art or environment modeling.
- Proficiency in industry-standard 3D modeling software such as Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max.
- Experience with texturing tools like Substance Painter, Photoshop, or equivalents.
- Practical knowledge of importing assets and building scenes within Unity.
- Strong understanding of scale, composition, color theory, lighting, and efficient topology.
- Familiarity with mobile game development constraints, including polygon budgets, texture size limits, and draw call optimization.
- A portfolio demonstrating game-ready environments and props, ideally with in-engine screenshots.
- Ability to interpret references, incorporate feedback constructively, and consistently meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications and Additional Skills
- Experience working on open-world, driving, action, or simulation game environments.
- Knowledge of modular environment kits, texture atlases, baked lighting techniques, and Unity’s Universal Render Pipeline (URP).
- Additional 2D skills such as creating textures, decals, simple concept sketches, or background art are a plus.
